This is my See Rock City bird house with a Bluebird who made a quick stop on its roof.
In the 1930s, Rock City opened on top of Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee. It has a beautiful walking trail that includes massive rock formations, caves, and lovely gardens. The owner, Garnet Carter, hired a barn painter named Clark Byers to go around and offer to paint barns for free, if he could put See Rock City on them. He went as far north as Michigan and as far west as Texas, It worked! Rock City is a very popular place. There are still a few of the barns around, but I think they use billboards that look like the bird house now.
I remember my first visit to Rock City, when I was about 6. That was a very long time ago, but I think it's still as enchanting now. :0)
The dof is my roof. I'm fairly sure that shadow is a missing shingle from high winds this past summer. That needs to go on my hubby's honey do list. :0)
Thank you for your kind responses to yesterday's missed sunset! Right after I posted last night, I fell asleep in my chair. I'll be catching up with your wonderful pics I missed this weekend. :0)
Beautiful dof ...love the red house and the little bird! So kind of him to pose for you there. I drove past Rock City a couple of times and never stopped. Next time, I will!
Pretty capture. Until tonight, I had not seen an advertisement on a bird house roof before. P.S. I identified storm damage on my house roof through a photo too. You should have seen the contractor's face when I told him how I discovered the roof damage.
fav
i have seen many many See Rock City signs since 1977 but never one with a bluebird atop it.
