The Common Buckeye is one of my favorite butterflies. They have beautiful eyespots. :0)
I had an interesting experience today. I love taking insects pics and I've taken pics of some scary ones like bees and wasps. I've been really lucky. I've never been stung. That luck ran out today, but it was a tiny insect that got the best of me. I was chasing a dragonfly in the field. I was watching for snakes, but I didn't think about ant hills! Something started sting ing my leg. It felt like needles. I wear blue jeans, when I'm outside. They are hot, but they are suppose to help protect me against insect bites. I had insect repellent on, but it must not repell ants. I came close to givimg the neighbors something to talk about, while I was trying to see what was stinging me! Needless to say, I made a fast trip to the house to solve the problem. They looked like regular tiny ants, but their bites hurt! They got my attention. I put lots and lots of repellent on and took a benedryl before I went back outside. Bees and wasps don't scare me, but I'll be watching out for the ants from now on!!! :0)
Thank you so much for your kind comments and faves on yesterday's butterfly! :0)
Beautiful buckeye! I posted one today that was quite different from this beautiful one. Wonder if you got into some fire ants? That is the problem with wandering in the fields - but that's where the shots are, huh! You got a beauty for your effort today. FAV
Wonderful shot....we have biting ants too...all the red ones bite! There are some nasty hills of them around so I try to watch for them and not stand still when I see lots of ants scurrying on the path.
Such a beautiful shot for all your discomfort.
I did have to giggle at the thought of you nearly giving your neighbors a show. LOL I know the feeling though, as I've done something similar when hiking.
You really do have to keep your eyes open- up, down and all around. There are so many possible forms of attack in the insect kingdom.
