I've never been a ring person.

In fifth grade I got some of my mom's old jewelry somehow, maybe she gave them to me. Different pieces were worn from time to time for fun but one stuck with me. A simple gold-colored ring with two hears in the middle, one simply an outline and the other full. The other pieces were largely abandoned, left to rot in my old rickety jewelry box, but I kept wearing that ring.

As far as I know there was never anything significant about it and it held no significance to me. In fact I didn't even like it because it was my mother's; I liked it in spite of my hate for her. But that silly little ring grew to mean so much to me.

I didn't wear it every moment, or even every day, but I wore it quite often. I believe I started wearing it more in eighth or nine grade. At that point I wore it every day. The full heart had worn so much the gold coating came off, revealing the silver color beneath.

Eventually I decided to give it to my then-girlfriend, I guess still in ninth grade, as sort of a promise ring. I was crazy for her but she didn't seem to really care that much, looking back. Shortly after it came out that she'd spent our entire relationship cheating on me with some guy. I smeared an entire glue stick in his hair and never got my ring back.

I can't say that I care I lost the girl, she was far more trouble than she was worth, but every now and then I miss my ring. The best part about it is that I don't even really like rings anymore, haven't for years. One day I think I might commission a jeweler to make a new version of the ring, updated and customized to fit my tastes better.

At the moment, this swirly ring is the only one I own. It was a free gift from a kind Etsy seller years ago, included with a pretty necklace my boyfriend got for me. I wear it from time to time but never for more than five minutes or so. Its pretty and I'm happy to have it, but rings really just aren't my thing at all.

Necklaces, on the other hand... oh I could go on for weeks just photographing them!

I absolutely love this. It's my all time fave of yours. The angle of the shot, the focus, the light, I like the really subtle shadow. This is a really lovely shot.

@farmreporter You should see the necklace! Its one of my favorites. I'll have to photograph it one of these days.

@janemartin Oh Jane, you flatter me! Thank you so much.

@cottiac I do! They're still in business too. The ring is from 2012 so I don't know if they have any more in this style. You could always send them a message though! https://www.etsy.com/shop/BEATAREN

Love your story - smearing glue in the hair!!! Its a wonder he didn't punch you in the nose! I think rings need to be outrageous and different!

This is a beautiful ring and I really like the vintage feel to it. I am sorry you lost the other ring - people don't always understand the significance of a gift. Fav

Lovely shot and great story. The only ring I wear is my wedding ring. I don't even wear my engagement ring too often these days. Today is my wedding anniversary, we have been married 47 years.

I'm turning through the pages in your album. I see very personal pictures with a particular hand... sensitive and thoughtful views of the world. They touch very much. They are flying seeds of a beautiful soul, drifting with a gentle breeze.
It is always nice when a vibration is felt from inside - evoked by a gesture, a glance... or a picture. Then very, very much has happened.
So: Idaho is not a "boring" place (as you write): because you're there.

Glad you're here.

And: Thanks a lot for your visits on my site. I am very pleased.

@maggiemae Haha! He knows I would've fought right back. Probably easier to just sit there and wash the glue out later.

@onewing Thank you! You know, that's the one silly thing that worries me about getting married. I worry I'd get annoyed with the ring very fast, haha.
I'm a little late but I hope you two had a wonderful anniversary :)

@happysnaps Thank you Valerie. I love when people enjoy my writing.

@jerome Thank you so much for your beautiful comment, Jerome. Its so heartfelt and touching. I have a hard time describing how much the support of this community means to me.

@annied I'm so glad you enjoy them, thank you so much. I've been having a blast just letting loose here and its so interesting to hear what people think.
