It was our last day with Roland.

She woke up bright and early right when I did, at 7:20, and wanted to get out of her cage right away. She slept and snuggled in my lap for hours, safely tucked into the jacket she claimed as her den. From time to time she'd poke her head out to sniff around, grab my hand, or lick my fingers. All morning long she snoozed and squeaked and purred.

Around noon she tucked back into the sleeve and we went to wake up my boyfriend. We let her run all over the bed, burrowing in the blankets and climbing onto the pillows. She tried to outsmart us by strategically tested the limits of the rules, like where she was allowed to go. She wasn't allowed under the pillow so her favorite thing was trying to get there under a blanket. Unfortunately for her the blanket was folded up so her plan didn't work, but she gave it her best shot!

Once he finished waking up all three of us headed back to the living room. Roland was very reluctantly plucked from my shoulder and placed back into her cage. We all had a breakfast of hot dogs, a favorite of our guest, before it was time to take her home.

I got into the back with her cage on my lap and watched her the whole way. This time she handled the drive like a champ, spending her time curiously sniffing around or sleeping, and didn't seem to ever really get freaked out. Her owner was relieved to have her back and she seemed thrilled to be home.

The drive back was stormy and rainy. The rest of the day was lonely; I kept turning to say hello to a rat that wasn't there anymore. I'm genuinely glad she and her owner are reunited; she's spoiled rotten and so very loved.

But I still miss her.
Fantastic picture.
