End of the Day

photo 65
Critique me!

This shot is SOOC outside of a crop. I shot it with the white balance set at "Shade" to give me a warmer sky. I will say that the sky was far from stunning tonight, but I didn't know if I should have used photoshop to add more reds. What do you think?

Also not crazy about the brush that's in front of the sun because I shot at f/5.6, rendering it out of focus. Am I being too picky?

What else???

I think it's perfect as is. Don't change a thing!

You are standing in just the right place! Well organized. I like it the way it is!

Lovely, especially the glow around the silhouette that separates it from the ground, wouldn't change a thing about it either

I wouldn't change anything! I love the colors just the way they are. Really wonderful!!

I don't really like the brush either. I think either it needs more brush or none at all. The rest is great though!
Would it have been possible to get more of her legs? Could she have walked up that hill more? Maybe make her a little smaller?

Amazing silhouette.... Fav

Caryn, it is a very nice photo as is. Sometimes, silhouettes are the best artistic choice. I would like to see how this would turn out if you used some off camera fill flash to light the subject will still exposing the sunset like you did. If you have a speedlight and either a remote trigger or an ETTL cord, and a diffuser of any kind, clamp the light to something at about a 45 degree angle to the camera, two feet above her head and about 6 feet away. Then make adjustments as needed. If you don't have those things, put them on your wish list. :-)

I like it just the way it is. The colours are beautiful and I love your silhouette. Fav

Really stunning.

I like it just as it is, untouched. It's a brilliant photo! I love the silhouette composition over subject fill; great work!

I think it is gorgeous just like ti is! Fav!

I love the colours and silhouette I can't decide about the brush, it does look a bit lacking or minor and maybe it being more in focus would help that? but I think overall it is a great photo just as it is

Beautiful composition and color. The bushes don't bother me at all! Lovely image.

i have no training whatsoever to be able to give any critique but I can say it's an outstanding shot. The silhouette is very sharp so congrats on catching that detail

It's a lovely shot, well done

I love the colours of the sky and I do love the silhouette too, the only critique I would give is the silhouette is maybe slightly too big and I like the OOF bushes in the background.

Wow another amazing shot. Incredible stuff Caryn! :O)

Wow, that is a very attractive silhouette. And I love the warm colors!

Can't offer you any expert opinion, but I agree with Zoe.

I think its beautiful i love a silhouette shot, and the tones of the sky are lovely and warm.....if i HAD to pick one thing i would have loved to see her full silhouette so she wasn't cut off at the knee's - but thats just being picky really and im a million miles away from knowing what im talking about anyway! - FAV! :)

I love it, great silhouette shot :)

I think it is a gorgeous shot! I love how the silhouette is framed in the shot, & how I can make out the strands of her hair...great color as well!

Simply put...I like it!

@mstipe Totally agree...she needs to walk to the edge of the plateau we were on so her legs aren't cut off...thx for pointing that out!

@hamptanner Funny you mention the speed light...I'm picking one up today! I have a small one now, but picking up "the big dog" today. Comes with a remote, so I'll be in business. Can't wait to learn to use it.

@zferrie Thx for the critique! I tend to agree about the size of the silhouette.

@mantha Thx for the critique...I agree--I don't like where she's cut off, either.

@cmc1200 The speedlight will open up all kinds of new possibilities for you but they are also frustrating at times until you learn how to use them. The more you use it, the quicker you can master the learning curve. Have fun.

Beautifully done silhouette. I don't think you should have added any colors...I like it natural looking as is (beautiful gold tones!). Great composition as well.

I really like this. Honestly, I mistook the brush for distant trees, and I like it there in terms of this odd towering perspective. I also love the way the light creeps into the leg, highlighting the knee, like it's a silhouette that refuses to be totally 2D. Very impressive SOOC!

You are being too picky! This is amazing!! Fav.

I really like this Caryn, I won't critique you until I can do this myself :-)

Great composition! Someone else already mentioned the cut off legs. Along the same lines, the angle makes the head seem larger. Moving the camera up would probably let you get a full sillouette and reduce the body distortion.

luv the outline of the person!

way too picky ;-0 I think this is fabulous as is.
