"I would not, could not"

I read "Green Eggs and Ham" to Audrey for the first time tonight. Because I had read it so many times to her sister I did not realize it was her first time... until I turned to look at her at one point in the middle of the story and she looked intensely concerned. Like she couldn't wait to see what would happen next. When he finally tasted the Green Eggs and Ham and exclaimed "I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!" ...she cheered and laughed!
For some reason it was a very special unexpected moment for me.

I could not, would not, in a house.
I would not, could not, with a mouse.
I would not eat them with a fox.
I would not eat them in a box.
I would not eat them here or there.
I would not eat them anywhere.
I would not eat green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

This was one of my first books as a child and one of my children's first books too. I would read them to my kids over and over until they could read them to me. This is a great memory picture. :-)
