This Julia butterfly was perfectly happy to have me snap away when its wings were closed, but refused to cooperate with wings open.

He looks so much like a maple seed this way. He is great seen from the front like you have him. I am always amazed when I actually catch one with open wings.

I am always happy to see the underside of their wings - they look fascinating too. Great close-up - I like this view very much (never before looked into the eyes of a butterfly :-)).

@dmariewms @equinoxe Since I started 365 I've become much more aware of the camouflage function of the underwings. You are right about the maple seed.

@cjwhite I'd only seen them inside the Butterfly House at Texas Discovery Gardens, so it was exciting to see one in the wild so to speak.
