The landscaping at our house is in a sad state ... a few overgrown yew bushes, a veggie garden, and these peonies ... they really brighten the place up during their short-lived bloom.
I'm looking for critique here if anyone has any. I'm thinking I should have increased the DOF to get the ant in focus as well. Also, I think the light on the bud is a little glaring, but I'm not sure what I could have done about that. A tripod would have been nice too ... I need to get one of those!
This is gorgeous . I don't what to say about doing anything different. Exposure seems fast enough to freeze moving ant. Ant looks in focus to me. When you shop for tripod get yourself something with either ball head or pistol grip. I have the second one and I really like it. Makes positioning camera so easy.
cool shot, as for the glare, you can either lower the exposure a touch in post processing or use a faster shutter speed. I think you got the aperture right on
This is a great shot Christina. The glare can be fixed in post processing ( Photoshop E, Gimp, or what ever you use.) I would select the blossom, and turn down the curve. The ant being a little out of focus in no big deal, cause most of the attention is being drawn toward the wasp. Tripods are mandatory at some point. I picked mine up on ebay.
@bardejov - Thanks for the recommendation. I was going to put up a discussion post on tripod recommendations, but it looks like I may be getting one for free. We'll see if its any good.
@purdey - Samson and Goliath! How perfect - that should have been the title because the ant was definitely there first! Thank you so much for the fav - it is very much appreciated.
@jaboney - forgot to reply to this! Thanks for the tip. I use pixlr right now, but have been wanting to venture into GIMP. I just tried to do this in pixlr with a pic of some clams - one of the inner shells was over exposed, but I couldn't really get it right. I selected it with the magic wand tool, then played around with the brightness, exposure, levels, curve (not all at the same time). I'll have to play with it some more, or maybe just take a better picture next time!
Nice shot!
