FAMILY

photo 233
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you my family. No, really...I want someone to take them.

Bottom row: Hunter, Nessie, Brinlee, Owen
Top row: Sallie (mother of Ness & Brinlee), B.J. (mother of Hunter & Owen) and Jackie (mother od Sallie & B.J.)

The day I was heading out to meet them for the shoot, I spotted an old picture leaning against a dumpster. I kicked out the painting and brought the frame with me as a prop.

Good on you for kicking out that painting...this is an awesome family portrait...the selective coloring is the coolest!

Really lovely! I got myself a gorgeous old gold frame from a garage sale for just this purpose... removed the painting too hahaha. One thing... did you mean Sallie's arm on the outside of the frame to be in colour?

excellent!

Very cool processing! Beautiful portrait - the frame is awesome!

Very creative and beautiful family portrait.

Great prop and lovely portrait. I love the sepia background.

@ozziehoffy -- Originally, I wanted just everything within the boarder to remain in color. However coloring just Sallie's fingers and not the rest of her arm looked weird to me, so I took creative licence. Hey, the way I see it, they're holding a magic picture frame, so anything is possible! :-P

great framing and processing, it's a lovely family portrait - (I assume you mean BJ is the mother of Owen and Hunter not Hunter and Hunter?)

OH Cromwell I love this photo!!!! I just wish you would have gave into using the tripod just one more time.. I miss your head, its the only this missing!

Beautiful!! Love the frame and how it's on an angle.

@ktmac12 -- The jury is still out. LOL
posted August 20th, 2012
@sarahcampbell -- I actually brought along the draded tripod and was going to originally pop in. Unfortunately, by the time I got to this shot the kids were over it. Thety were all pretty good sports, but by this time they were tired and hungry and bored with it all.

Note to self: Don't shoot anywhere near a fantastically alluring playground. Once the kids saw that...game over.

Cool find! And you put it to great use. I think I'd go no color on the arm...so only the things coming out of the frame are color. Partly because the color on that arm seems off (slightly greenish?) but that could be my monitor! I love the angle of the frame! And your family is absolutely beautiful!

I love it! Great job Cromwell and what a beautiful family!

With a family like this you lack nothing else in life! This is awesome ... they are all beautiful (or cute, or adorable) depending on the correct term for their age. Seriously, Cromwell, I envy your close bonding with each one of these lovely individuals. You are a rich man, indeed. :)

such a fun shot! I did this with my son and his family...they loved it...but instead of the usual nice little smiles, they all decided to be 'alive' and reaching out of the frames at me...too weird

what a great shot, Cromwell. . .I think we'll probably see the frame idea showing up all over the place, as it really makes an unusual family portrait! three wives, huh. . .and to think we would never have suspected. . .
posted August 21st, 2012
@tryeveryday @lyno -- I thought the frame shot was a tired old photographer clishe`. I didn't invent the idea LOL! Feel free to "borrow" it guys. :-D

I missed this somehow but it really caught my eye looking at your thumbnails! Beautiful family and shot! Love how you did this!!!!

Very creative image. I like the color and B&W separation. Was leaving Sallie's forearm in vivid color intentional? It seems to make her the artist, holding the frame. Like it!
posted August 24th, 2012
@ososki -- The color / b&w OZ idea came to me while editing. I decide that everything in the frame or touching the magic frame would be in color.

I'll have them if you really don't want them; they look like a great family to me and I'm in need of some replacements, having lost a few lately. Great portrait; I can see those kids are busting to get to the playground.
