Reflecting On The Past

116 / 365
I wet to the ANZAC Day March in Brisbane today. This is a picture of the crowd. A young girl was holding up this flag and waving at the passing soldiers. The flag was reflected in her mother's glasses. I thought it was a great representation of what ANZAC Day means to Australians and New Zealanders.

ANZAC Day (25th April) is thought of as Australia's most important national occasion. ANZAC Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

ANZAC stands for - Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.

Is it Anzac day when all the sailors come ashore and gambling takes place all over with a game they play with corks as I remember a day like that in Sydney and it was a national holiday I just wasn't sure if it was Anzac day or not

@hasselhotch
Hi David. The traditional game played everywhere on ANZAC Day (and a blind eye turned to the gambling laws) is a game called "Two Up". It is played with two coins and you bet on heads and tails. Not sure what the game with corks is?

@danacarruthers No that's it! I just checked with Jen and she remembers it being played with corks
