My brother invited us to go scalloping over the weekend. What a wonderful experience. We stayed on this canal just off the Crystal River. This photo was taken at high tide.
Scalloping! How do you "scallop"? There are more and more new things I am learning on 365! Beautiful shot of the water, and the nature is very ... exotic for me! Exciting.
@vera365 Have you ever eaten a Sea Scallop or a Bay Scallop? Seafood. These are Bay Scallops, as they are "harvested" in the Gulf of Mexico. It's actually quite fascinating. My brother goes a few times a year. The season is in the summer, from sometime late June until mid-September. Scallops are in shells, a few inches across. You have to "dive" for them (which usually means snorkeling). They are located in relatively shallow water up to 6'. You hunt for them, as you would Easter Eggs! You swim around and when you see one, you scoop it up! We collected about 70 the other day because 3 of us were novices. My brother said we'd get better the next time. As with most marine life, they are good at camouflage. It really is a lot of fun!
Wow. That goes onto my bucket list. It's gotten way bigger since I've joined 365! Thank you for the explanation - this sounds like fun. And I bet the dinner afterwards is a lot of fun too!
