Communal property since 1893

There is a Florida State Park formerly owned by a religious sect. When the group died out, they donated their land to the state of Florida.
Communal... religious sect... jungle... ..the group died out.

That's an eerily familiar collection of words, don't ya think?

@nearlyincontrol This group certainly moved to Florida long before air conditioning! They believed in celibacy...never a good thing to ensure longevity!

Sort of reminds me of Jurassic Park! Great gnarly wood in the foreground... path makes a nice leading line... but I am not sure if I'd follow it... a bit creepy to me!

I’m with @calm on the Jurassic Park comparison. Interesting place, I can tell.

@danette Two possibilities spring to mind. Either all of this sect's adherents had a room temperature IQ, or one of its guiding principles was centered on an idea of extreme environmentalism and the "humans are a cancer on the face of the planet" style of ideology. I'm always intrigued to read about such things.

@nearlyincontrol They also believed in immortality! I'm guessing the group was shaken when their leader died. Here is a link to the sect. I'm sure there must have been a benefit for the leader. They called it a utopian society. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koreshanity I do not know if there was any link to David Koresh.
