Expanding on yesterday's photo, here is one of the quarries they used to mine coral rock from the Keys. Imagine all of this being so far under water that it was a coral reef! What looks to be a wall is part of the coral rock underneath our state.
The exposed coral is "prettier" than the layers of shale that shore up this region of Nova Scotia! The settlers who came here planned to be farmers, but the "soil" is still somewhat impossible...so they learned to be sailors and fishermen! That's Lunenburg's history!
