A strangler Fig at Border Ranges National Park, NSW.

These trees find a host tree and can literally squeeze the life out of them by growing downward and upward.They are the enormous giants of the forest. This one is hollow, as the host tree died. Sometimes you can climb up the inside. This one just got a big hug from my friend Anthony.

(btw, I am standing up when I took this, just to give some scale)

I love hiking through the national parks Danielle. We were at Mt Barney which is not far from the border ranges i think?

I love those enormous trees, especially when they go hollow and you can look up from the inside.

Wonderful shot they are amazing plants and so fascinating to look at. I'd never seen them before I went to Aus so this brings back some great memories

Oh I adore the fig trees Dannielle - we love the cathedral fig tree up on the Atherton Tablelands. They're magnificent.

I love these trees in the rainforest but always find them hard to photograph. You have done a wonderful job. I like all the palm trees around it.
