First Cherry Blossoms in the Cold by darylo

First Cherry Blossoms in the Cold

Thankful that today, my shot is in my front yard where the daffodils have faded but the cherry blossoms above have received the baton to announce the next wave of Spring. However, the air whispers "winterrrr" still.
This is a lovely shot. The blues do give it a sense of chilliness.

Lovely shot. The tones gives the photo a sense of peacefulness. Lovely.

Love those cherry blossoms. We have two cherry trees "in waiting" as it were. I hope things warm up before they blossom.

Goegeous shot! Nothing has started growing over here
Lovely light :)

@ellie32 Thanks so much!

@witchyjacq If it weren't so cold! It's sort of overcast too. Right now as I type, a pair of finches are playing in the tree...so nice to have an office with this view!
March 25th, 2013
@ragnhildmorland Hopefully it will come soon! Thanks for your comment. :)
March 25th, 2013
@steampowered This is the very first bloom--the rest will burst out likely overnight or in the 48 hours.
March 25th, 2013
@darylo lovely to have an office with a view but work seems to get in the way of fully appreciating it at times! :)
March 25th, 2013
@witchyjacq yes, so true!

fav Daryl beautiful photo and flower

@gerry thanks Gerry for the fav and lovely comment.

This has such a nice "hushed" quality to it. Love the blue tones.
March 25th, 2013
@judis I think the blue hue cones from the higher aperture number but not exactly a fast shutter speed. I had the aperture set lower and it gave a slight high key effect. I preferred the blue tones and the need only for a quick crop!

Lucky you, no blossom in our garden yet, and when I say our garden I mean the neighbours blossom hanging over our garden fence, so in the meantime I shall enjoy ours, lovely shot.
March 25th, 2013
@jo13 :). Blossoms will come soon (I do hope you have heat up and running yet?). I've been eyeing my neighbors' camellias, so a field trip across the way is in order soon!

Jo
@darylo Nope we r still without heating and hot water!
March 25th, 2013
@jo13 Oh my goodness. Poor you! I really wish I could invite you over and feed you all and give you shelter and hot water. I sure hope you have people close by providing some help. Wish I could help. :(

Jo
@darylo How kind, still trying to find a heating engineer we trust as we need to have the whole system replaced!
March 25th, 2013
@jo13 We had to have both of our heating and AC units replaced a few months ago and it was a very painful and expensive venture. It's really not fun to go through the process when the heat is really needed. We were fortunate it was between seasons and before it really got cold.

Jo
@darylo The expense is the real worry, but we have no choice but to bite the bullet.
March 25th, 2013
Lovely shot, it well conveys the coldness of a late winter.
March 25th, 2013
@markp Thanks Mark! :)
March 26th, 2013
Evokes the feeling of cold and blooming flowers of spring. Simply beautiful.

Ann
This is lovely and as the others said chillingly cold with the blue.
March 26th, 2013
@spair Thanks Susan. I can't wait for some warmth.
March 26th, 2013
@foxsparrow Funny that I was able to get the blue without editing it. Love when that happens.
March 26th, 2013
Ann
@darylo A happy accident, or an understanding of the camera settings?
March 26th, 2013
@foxsparrow A little of both. I was intentionally setting a higher number aperture with a lower shutter speed to see what would happen. At first, I was using a lower number aperture which made it more "high key" and I thought it looked more washed out, so I reset the aperture number higher and got the darker/bluer effect. I did a little editing as well. Oh, and just an fyi, I worked in PSE today some and learned more--still not sure about how to create a collage yet (but I think I know where to start it). Gosh, I wish it was a little more intuitive for me because I love learning new technical things. Until then, just assume it's all by accident! ;)
March 26th, 2013
@foxsparrow Oh, and the day was a cold grey too, so the blue came in well I think. Had it been sunny, the hue would have been more brown for sure!
March 26th, 2013
This is a really effective shot -- beautiful subject, and the lighting is perfect.
March 26th, 2013
Love your Bluetones in this definitely set the mood for cold
March 26th, 2013
Your picture conveys the wintry feel, and the silent waking up of spring..... its like watching a transition....of how a season unfurls.... so beautiful....
March 26th, 2013
@taffy @guttersniperebecca @amrita21 Thanks so much for your comments! I think the blue tone is a winner! :) Turns out I had it on "tungsten light" in manual mode for white balance, so yes, @foxsparrow, let's call this one "by accident." Drat! Thought I was all good at this for once. :)

@darylo Hope you know I was just "joshin" you. Yesterday you responded to Judi " I'm thinking that it's be month 8 when I produce something that wasn't "an accident" . That's why I asked about this being a happy accident. Guess maybe it was after all. LOL
March 26th, 2013
@foxsparrow it sure would explain the frustrations I was experiencing with such blue hues the day before. WHAT BUTTON DID I HIT TO GET WHAT I GOT? LOL!!! At least a happy accident right? Thanks for going on this journey with me. Judi too! :)
March 26th, 2013
The blue colours give it the picture the taste. Great shot ! Faved
March 29th, 2013
