Every year I come to Fernandina Beach, my visit is not complete until I meet up with local harmonica player, Felix Jones. For 20+ years, Felix has spent his day on his three-wheeled bike selling pies, cookies, peanuts, newspapers, and other things (today, it was pineapples, papers, and Cracker Jacks). After I bought a box of Cracker Jacks, he played "Oh, Susanna" for all of us. Usually, I get boiled peanuts from him; not this time, but he promised to have it next time!
Felix is an official Goodwill Ambassador for Fernandina now -- at one point, someone tried to prevent Felix from his daily routine (a street vendor upset that he was not allowed to set up a street vending cart in the historic district because of strict ordinances when Felix could sell items from his bike cart; thankfully, the whole town of Fernandina rallied around Felix to protect his daily routine and they threw out the complaint).
My trip is not the same without hearing his music and seeing him biking around town. He was nice enough to play for me while I took his photo. I opted for black and white because the table cloth behind him was a bright red, distracting the eye from the subject of the photo!
@witchyjacq@berniecarpenter@toveh@markp@jo13@judis@squamloon@foxsparrow Thanks all! I'm not a "street" photographer in any way, but I have "known" this wonderful fellow for years--my kids love buying an item each year from him. It was nice to ask to take his photo and to have him agree while playing!
