It's been one of those days where I have listened to sideline parents screaming at 10 and 11 year old soccer players and coaches scream at the kids too. For goodness sakes, and for the love of the game, I wish these folks would stop their yelling. It drives me crazy, the kids get all anxious, and I have a sobbing child by the end of game. I get home, determined to just blast an email to the league saying we are so over the ridiculous obsession with kids winning games and yelling at them all the time.
Then I went outside and this pretty bug said, "wait 24 hours before you write that missive, Missy. In the meantime, get my right side--it's my best side." So I did.
Nice how a bug can grab your attention and let you blow your frustration into the air and on 365 so you can calmly present your perspective to others tomorrow. But I completely agree with you -- it's supposed to be fun! Kids can learn to say, "good kick" or "great pass" and not focus on winning so much . . . if their parents can. I remember that @taffy told me how she and her students decided to go for an award -- the Good Sportsmanship Award or something like that. Now that's an award worth winning and working on! Life lessons that are worthwhile.
Spectacular shot! Needs to be seen enlarged. Don't know why the referees don't fine those parents. Lately, we've had some parents removed from games when they couldn't control themselves. That uncouth behaviour goes across all sports. Those "win at all cost" coaches need some anger management classes. Winning is a nice bonus, but it isn't the main reason that most kids play - they play for fun. More parents and coaches should remember that.
Beautiful insect! I wonder what it is! (There have been a few times I've gone out to take pictures really upset and come back home all calmed down. It's very therapeutic.)
@archaeofrog Thanks very much! @vskolnik the colors are true to capture too! I have no idea what it is, though. @bobfoto thanks! @grammyn it's also hard when your kid has anxiety--so our levels of annoyance are super elevated. :( @jyokota thanks so much. I've played many sports, and I never experienced this type of hyper parent craziness except on these silly young kids, who are out there to have fun. It was a no fun zone--it's not right. @calm thanks very much @timandelke--I wish they would fine folks, but that just hypes it up even more--I'm going to address the coach by phone (email will not work I've determined) @danette yes, a pox! @juliedduncan I really would like to know what it is! @rvwalker The color is untouched in processing, and it's a tiny bug--wish I knew what it was. Unfortunately, my little one was destroyed by end of game--there was no fun, which is really the shame of it all. @princessleia Thanks so much for that compliment! @squamloon Not yet. Thinking a call is best. Email can veer off-course and get into a silly back and forth. I'm better with my teacher voice on the line. :) @hollandcrew Thanks very much!
I remember those days. Some of the adults acted more childish than the kids. In fact the kids could have taught them a lesson about good sportsmanship. I have never seen a bug like this in all those colors. Beautiful catch!
Fabulous shot, colours, detail! fav.
What gets me going are the little children on holiday in our pool at the health club - why do they have to shout, scream, jump in (forbidden) when all I want is a quiet swim.
What a gorgeous bug! The colors and pattern are beautiful. Wonder what it is. I 100% agree with you about the state of youth sports. Early on we had a coach who took a really strong stand on this kind of behavior and it helped immensely - didn't eradicate it entirely unfortunately but definitely made a big difference. Definitely still voice your concern one way or another.
@nanalisarocks Wrote a great email if I say so myself, and I had a good conversation with the coach. We're on same page for now. He's a bit of a stresser. I kept saying, "the kids are 10 and 11..."
So did missy's missive dematerialize?

Yes. I guess.....but I'm still not impressed (I'm older than you!!)
