I have a pot of mums that I put outside last night to observe a Japanese moon celebration, and I left it out as the blooms are going to decay quickly (see other shot from the morning: http://365project.org/darylo/album3/2013-09-23 ). My macro clip produced a dark circle around the flower (didn't get it set correctly on lens at proper length), so I had to crop some, but I loved how the mono setting captured the tonal differences in color (it's an orangy, yellowy, red mum). Ended up liking the center of flower in the left top quadrant.
OMG love this so much! Not even sure I can explain why...the depth of it, the texture...does that make sense! You could totally see this one (and so many others of yours)!!! Fav!
@luvmynynix oh wow, now you really made my day. It read perfectly fine as "see"--in that you see something in this and other photos. Sell! Now we're talking. LOL. :)
@timandelke I have NO PROBLEM with sharing! :). I went to Lightroom to look at my list of activity (I love that you can review it). I did three things. I cropped the photo, then I used the clarity slider and moved it about 1/4 from the halfway point (in other words, it was good already!). The last thing I did was hit the "yellow filter preset" for Black and White photos in LR5. Other than that, this was pretty good on it's own. I'm loving mono and manual mode. I love color, but some things just come out so nice like this one. I much prefer this one to the ETSOOI version--an editing nightmare to be honest because I'm not good at detail, especially with a "lipstick tool" LOL
@taffy Thanks Taffy, I have to say I was channeling a bit of you when you were experimenting with flowers in black and white awhile ago. You have a very positive influence. :) This is one of my personal favs. It's funny that I like it much better than the colorful one.
@sailingmusic thanks very much! I realize that mono setting is good practice for light and tones. And I'm enjoying manual mode. A great week of experimenting.
People who can visualize a flower in B&W, then make it happen, have my admiration. Nice blend from grayer tones in the upper left to the brighter tones around the rest of the circle.
@wind_of_the_sothern_sea Thanks so much! I'm using the "mono" setting, so there is no option for color unless I physically tint it like the other one. I'm loving the limitation as tone and contrast and light make a huge difference in the outcome. Thanks for your comments!
@twistergirl Thanks Doris. This is one of my all-time favs. Really appreciate your faving it. The manually colored version of it got a crazy wicked response, but I still love this one best. :)
Fav here also :)
