Brilliant! You've inspired me -- I'm going to have Jim clean out the feeders with your vinegar idea. He handles the feeders (lucky me) and has been missing the birds too.
@taffy I only do hummingbird feeders, and I have one. I just put some cider vinegar (although I'm guessing some distilled vinegar is best) with some warm water, rinsed them out, and let them air dry completely. Hope that works! We've had plenty in the Mimosa tree, but that is far too out-of-range for my pitiful zoom, and this one is not in the best sunny spot, but nice for viewing from the patio. I'd love to just see them on walks. That would be a thrill!
Great shot, Daryl. I saw it on the Trending Page, but didn't realize it was yours. Just now seeing it in my feed. On the TP, I thought it was glass! Beautiful!
Truly amazing capture, Daryl! We don't see many hummingbirds in our yard so when they appear, it is such a surprise and all I can do is stare in wonder of them. FAV On a separate note, thank you for your kindness over the last few weeks. I felt your care and it meant a lot to me! I was touched by your comment on my post today. Would you allow me to send you a copy of the image? I'd love for you to have it.
@pflaume I love just sitting outside to watch them. They have patterns and once you sit long enough, you can see them repeat them over and over, so I'm always in wonder for them too! Re the image, I would be beyond thrilled to receive a copy. You can email me at darylophotog@gmail.com if you want to get in touch. You are very thoughtful to even want to give me one--I would cherish it, of course. Hang in there. So many folks care about you and your family. :)
@mzzhope Go out an get one! Patience, patience, patience. You would laugh with me on this one today. I went in search of my hawks without my camera today. What happened but TWO of them were within a perfect zoom range, perfect light, and preening, grooming, scratching RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME. And no camera. But I talked to them and told them I'd be back tomorrow. Put one more check in the "I'm a crazy bird lady" column. :)
Such a great capture! I have one hummer outside my kitchen window but if I go outside, the bird immediately flies away. One of these days I'm going to get my shot...
@redy4et try sitting in the same spot for awhile. They come in intervals and usually find a perch in the trees before heading in for he food. My I just sit and focus. Every few minutes one shows up. This morning, two have been going at it at each other for the feeder. Of course, I haven't had time to sit and do it, but it's so fun to watch regardless!
