Pollenator

I saw a small plot of very tall sunflowers on the way to Trader Joe's the other day and decided to stop briefly (you know, cold things in the car on a very HOT day) to see what I could capture. Heavily cropped and flipped and angled and then made vertical. I'm almost dizzy!

Great shot! So yellow :D FAV

In my opinion, the sacrificial ice cream made the stop worthwhile! What a gorgeous image! Perhaps there's a secret you might share as to how to hold on to the exif information when making the changes to the photo. I always hesitate to crop, thinking I'll lose that...
August 19th, 2014
@Weezilou in what program do you process your photos?
August 19th, 2014
@darylo Photoshop. Typically, RAW and the following alterations change nothing, but when I start cropping, it seems to change things. I'd love to have the leverage you had with this beauty! Thanks for taking the time!

Lovely shot Daryl. Worth the trouble you went to!

Fantastic shot! faved

What an awesome close up. Fav.

@Weezilou @abirkill would you know why exif info would be lost in photoshop after crops?

When I finish crops I export with all metadata, so Loiuse & Ken do you click that option? I use LR5
August 20th, 2014
Awesome!
August 20th, 2014
Brilliant. Fav
August 20th, 2014
@darylo @abirkill Thanks for calling out the big guns Darly! Hi Alex... I'm on the wrong side of the learning curve...I don't know what "export with all metadata" is... I don't have LR... RAW opens into PS CS6 where I adj levels, possibly exposure and curves...that's about it. If I don't crop, everything transfers to 365 intact. Aha...I was sure I'd have an example... http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2014-08-12 After fussing over this for too long, I just cropped and used the lower right quadrant to upload and there...no exif...
August 20th, 2014
incredible detail!!!!!
August 20th, 2014
@Weezilou so how do you upload to 365? I usually choose to export the image to the original photo album to which I imported it (when I put the disk in computer). So as I export it, addialogue box comes up so I can control the metadata, which is basically the information your camera has kept along with the RAW file when it was imported. So it depends on how you save the image before sending it to 365. We'll figure it out together!

WOWSA!!!! This is AWESOME!! I see you were using a 35mm lens. What was your distance from the subject???
August 20th, 2014
I agree with Lisa, wows!!! fav for sure and then some
August 20th, 2014
@lisatown I am using a full framed 35mm (fixed) lens on a crop sensor camera so it equates to a nifty-fifty lens. I am quite close as it allows a macro function. I may create a side-by-side collage today since it's an interesting subject on how to crop such images! Thanks for the question!

Spectacular capture :)
August 20th, 2014
Oh Daryl, thank you again so much for taking the time to try to make this clear. I'm going to work on this and see if I can't find out more... Certainly I have my own data, but I do enjoy seeing how some shots were captured, given the data, and I'd like to have mine at the ready as well in the spirit of fair play! Thanks so much!

Delicious color and stunning composition, Daryl.

amazing!!! fav

@Weezilou I look at the exif data all the time to see if 1) I can guess it and 2) what I can learn from it! That's one thing I love about this site--so helpful!
August 21st, 2014
@darylo I totally agree! And that's why I feel guilty when I can't share it! This isn't "social media"...it's a classroom! I love it (too!)
August 21st, 2014
Wow! Awesome capture! fav!
August 21st, 2014
Awesome capture and detail.
August 21st, 2014
Fantastic on black.
August 21st, 2014
@Weezilou I'm not aware of any case where cropping itself will lose the metadata. As @darylo says, it's usually a case of either how the file is saved, or how the file is uploaded. If you are saving using the Save for Web option in Photoshop, then if the Metadata dropdown box is set to 'All', then the metadata should be preserved.

I think some people have reported intermittent metadata loss when uploading here via e-mail, could that be the cause?

@darylo Lovely shot! Great contrast of the yellow against the black, and superb detail!

@abirkill Thank you Alexis @darylo and Daryl for taking so much time with me! Alexis, I've never looked for the "Save for Web" option, but with this information I think I can go ahead successfully! (I've always just reduced size to 72 dpi and say to "save to"... I see I needed this classroom instruction and it's most appreciated|! I may have to crop, invert and rotate something as Daryl did just for the pure satisfaction of getting it right! Thanks to both of you! And Daryl, thank you for the follow! I've been pathetic about getting around to everyone this summer...too many photo activities and not enough time left over! Perhaps the same for all of us! Thanks again & I'mm follow back as well!
August 21st, 2014
@abirkill @darylo I found all the information you suggested, Alexis! I love that I can learn about and use another aspect of Photoshop! Thanks so much!
August 22nd, 2014

@stimuloog Oh, I will miss seeing your fabulous abstracts. You have been a wonderful inspiration to my work--color, macro, abstract, scenes from the Netherlands. Feliciteerd!

@darylo Haha, thank you so much for your kind words! Always when I see Crocs walking by, I've got to think of you...
