Back to the Hood... by darylo

Back to the Hood...

Or actually, back to Old Car City--sharing my photos from a shoot I did this month and have too many photos, so November, except for my sweet slew of One Night Stands, is about the cars, the old trucks, the broken down, miscellaneous items on this 34 acre junk yard. I wish I had written down the names of the cars as the hood ornaments are their signatures obviously (so feel free to chime in with the make of this car!). I have found this site, so I'm going to keep researching. Seems like a pontiac, but not exactly. http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2010/08/hood-ornament-identifiaction-guide.html

Taken with my wide angle lens; I missed a good lighting moment on this one as I was yapping away with another photographer who was telling me this was a good spot to take a shot. The light was just on the hood ornament. but I loved this one too. You can see all the way back to the broken out driver's window.

Starting Thanksgiving preparations. The gingerbread dough was made yesterday by my husband; today, I pick up my Bell and Evans Brined turkey and all our fresh herbs. Tomorrow, I will put a butter/herb mixture under the skin of the turkey so it will be prepped two days in advance (and the herbs can infuse into the skin).

I'm doing all of this without my father, first time in at least 15 years. He's heading north for his feast this year. My kids may even abandon me--we usually all go to buy the turkey (kids/dad) and spend time sampling everything at Whole Foods. I may just be making a new solo tradition...
Excellent perspective. These hood ornaments are really neat!

Cool shot! Nice find and capture.

That hood ornament is unnerving...I love this shot, the abstract feel to it and that very intense looking ornament. The high contrast is effective processing.

Great shot, Daryl, lovely B&W

@taffy is right - that hood ornament is positively agressive looking so the gritty treatment suits it well. Daryl, you mentioned that there also old motorcycles at this place... can I put in a plea to see one of them please.

Love this one Daryl - what a face on the hood ornament!! Great processing!! What a wonderful place you found - full of treasures!!
I am liking the sound of your turkey preparations. I am sure your Thanksgiving meal will be very special even without your Dad!! At least he knows what he is missing!!

@vignouse Richard, I don't recall getting a motorcycle, but there was a rack of traditional bicycles. I know, not the same thing. :(

@amrita21 Hi Amrita! I have missed you! I have been well, but so busy, so this will be my last official year (ends in late January when I turn 50). I am still doing photography with a local club, and I even have had a few pieces chosen for some local exhibits. Kids and work keep me busy. How is your life going? And how is our champion chess player? Still think fondly of his great photos he posted. xoxoxo
