Watching a Hawk "Wash Up" after Its Meal...

Meticulous these hawks. They have their own way of brushing their beaks. :)

Want to see it as it consumes a meal up the branch a bit (not terribly gross, promise): http://365project.org/darylo/album3/2014-07-26
Wonderful collage with beautiful detail!

Gotta clean off all that blood. How cool is this to see!!
July 27th, 2014
@amandal Strangely, very little blood. They decapitated a raccoon (found it on a hill in the field). YUCK. And PEEEYUUUUU.

@darylo Ish, it ate a raccoon HEAD?!
July 27th, 2014
@amandal No, it left the head on the ground (decapitated)--wanna see it? lol. I was debating doing that, but I think folks here might hate me, and I wanna be looooooved. :)

I've got a great photo of an Owl with a possum in its claw....

@bobfoto Mmmmmm, possum's good eatin around here! Still dying to get an owl shot. Last night two barred owls were talking to each other and I was going out there with a flash light while my daughter and her friend (sleepover) rolled their eyes. I MADE the other daughter come outside to hear them. Always educating my kids I am...

@darylo - love the sound of Barking Owls in the morning.... one morning, very early I went out to go look for a pair of Papuan Frogmouths (I know, not exactly owls) and found myself standing under their nest and the pair flying around my head....

Such a cool collage -- can't wait to see the dinner consumption -- off to view it now. Probably a good call re the decapitated head. I had an osprey shot last year that I hadn't realized included its dinner of a possum in its claws.

@bobfoto Whoa! I'm glad you told me about that! Reminds me I have to go back to a spot on a bike path the other day I saw tons of bird poop and looked up--huge nest of something -- no binoculars to see what, but I told myself to go back on bike and see what I could get. They may have already flown off, but they were big! I don't know what a Frogmouth is either.

Great series of photos...why didn't they eat the head too I wonder?
July 27th, 2014
@darylo - a Frogmouth is related to Nightjars, but most call 'em Owls... take a look here : https://www.flickr.com/photos/birdtown/5130391501/ - this was the bird I woke up to and saw flying around.
