A friend gave me this wonderful nesting materials ball for birds, so I put it out today. A chickadee checked it out, so I do hope I will get some fun shots with a bird using the materials. Robins, Mockingbirds, cardinals, titmouses (mice?), all going around making preparations!!!
I have water. Our cherry blossom tree is in bloom, and our next Japanese student visitor arrives Monday. Bring the Spring!
So birds use the materials to make their nests, stopping by to pose as they do this? Sounds like a brilliant idea for bird photographers! And you've photographed it beautifully -- great bokeh.
@taffy Yes! Since I don't use bird feeders to attract birds, I put it in one of the most sought out natural feeders in my yard when the berries arrive (it's an autumn olive bush). I'll see if the chickadees keep coming--they make very soft nests! Every year, when I take off Foxy's winter coat while combing her, I made big balls of her fur and then put them in the trees for the birds to pick up as they please. This little packet will make for some cute shots hopefully! I'm tempted to go get a bird feeder, but I really enjoy training myself to get them by just being patient and waiting. They warm up to me some--the same Robins (I think) are back and they are not shy of me right now. They are probably a completely different couple, but I like to think it's the same ones visiting. :)
What a terrific shot! I love the idea too! I have never thoughtof putting the dog hair in the trees for the birds but I do leave it outside instead of throwing it away!
That's a great idea. I watched a Blue Jay pick off sticks from my hedge today to make a nest. We used to brush our last dog outside and joke about making the birds happy, but I don't think I really knew to do this.
