Smoky Mountain Day 1--"Feet on the Ground, Head in the Clouds"
Be jealous everyone, I have met Taffy and Junko after almost three years. We have 3 more nights together and I am having the time of my life. We've witnessed a blue heron in flight, waterfalls with dancing leaves, crooked creeks, turkeys crossing roads, and we've been to Food City after driving through a very lively Gatlinburg scene--I think we'll have to get some street photography there. So much to do. Tomorrow, we head up the mountain to photograph some vistas. Day 2 will be here soon. Off to bed.

Extremely jealous, and now you have to tell me more. You're all in the Smoky Mountains right now. Is that 'home' for anyone? I know Taffy is in Chicago. I don't know Junko, but now feel I have to go and 'meet' her and her photography, and I don't know where in the US you are based Daryl. Why did you choose the Smoky Mountains in particular? I'm intrigued. How lovely to meet people after 'knowing' them for 3 years! I am also going to like your FB page - in anticipation of meeting you in Paris next year! :-) Lovely story photo, and so glad you're having the 'time of your life'!
So glad @taffy was able to fly out of Chicago, she was worried their flight would be cancelled!

Hi Jo! YES, a trip to London is way up on the list -- one of my favorite cities but I've not been there since I've learned about photography and used the DSLR so really want to go back. Wouldn't a meetup be fun!
@jamibann There is a photography 'summit' going on here that we were going to go to, but were on a waiting list. So we found this 'cabin' as a backup in case we didn't get in. By the time we got in, we decided we would have more fun in this cool cabin and teaching each other, than going to a larger park resort with 500 people. Good choice!
I AM jealous. @darylo@taffy@jyokota If any of you come anywhere near Manhattan, KS (not a usual vacation destination, I know, but the Flint Hills lanscape is beautiful) let me know.
@jamibann -- wish we could meet in person, too, as Taffy and Daryl tell me what a wonderful photographer you are. I'm "based" in Chicago, but I travel all over the world and live outside the US for months at a time depending on fellowships, etc. Daryl is Atlanta based.
How absolutely fabulous to be able to have such a meet up! I'm sure that you will have an amazing time and that you will learn so much from each other.
DId you go through Pidgeon Forge? Where we stayed we had to go through that too to get to the Smokey's. Wow Disney World on steroids. Cherokee is different at least the first part next to the trail but I think there is some we didn't see. If you get a few moments at the end of the day there are some crazy photo ops in Pidgeon Forge if you like amusement park stuff.
