I've visited Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach, FL since I was a baby. My father is from Jacksonville, which is nearby, and my brother owns a post civil-war home (renovated) intown. I love coming to visit this place since it evokes so many wonderful childhood memories, from roaming the beaches for shells, fishing off-shore, and visiting the local fort to see the cannons and views of Cumberland island (off in the distance).
This year, I decided I would try to capture some of the flag at the fort this year. I have very little info on this flag and should research it more, but my initial Google search did not yield which American flag this one is (not that you can see the pattern of stars I've captured), but it's circular and most likely a replica from the Civil War era. I stood under the pole (which is one full, very tall tree trunk) to capture the flag in the wind. Fort Clinch was controlled by both Union and Confederate forces during the Civil War. It came back to life when the USS Maine in Havana harbor thrust the U.S. into war with Spain, and it was pressed into service during WWII (all of this info is lifted from my little brochure with my $2 admission fee).
Do you know how you truly love another person's work? I randomly go onto the latest feed to check out new posts from anyone. The photo I choose to look at out all of them---yours! This is why I am already following you! Awesome shot! :)
