A Daryl Original--ONS--Food Photography

Today, rather than wait until I cooked dinner (planning on ribs on the grill), I decided to get my food shot in around lunch time--actually, I wanted to make sure I created an original dish for my lunch to enjoy and photograph outside.

One Night Stand this time was hard as I was hosting a niece and trying to recover from a very active spring break, but I was not going to let my favorite subject go without trying my best!

This dish is a Daryl original. Haven't given it a name yet, but it tastes out of this world! Here is the recipe for you foodies like me--easy peasy--nothing takes cooking and it's all about amounts and arranging!

Four slices very thin sliced prosciutto (if you don't do meat, think of some sautéed Kale maybe).

One tomato sliced (I used a "brown tomato" called a Kumato).

One lemon sliced super thin (four slices per plate). If you happen to have preserved lemons on hand (Italian and French friends know what I mean), then use those.

Goat cheese. Soft, plain goat cheese. Make four patties with your hands and a ball "topper"

Olive oil and lemon juice and pepper.

Arrange the prosciutto slices on the plate, layer the tomato, a goat cheese patty, a slice of lemon. Repeat. I added some kalamata olives at the end, but you don't need to (capers would be nice too). Then drizzle olive oil and lemon juice on top. Top with fresh pepper!

I used fresh sliced baguette as a side so I could make a little sandwich, but I used a knife and fork for the rest. It was the most delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe I have done in a long time. And finally, a food shot for ONS that I like! Last time it was a meat ball at Buca di Beppo!
oh yum...this is a great foodophotograpy shot!! Thanks for the recipe share...seems very simple...nice discovery Daryl!

I was loving your recipe right up to the goats cheese....have never got on with it, so I would sub in some shaved Parmesan. Lovely food shot.

@orangecrush , once again, thanks for making life fun and risky. I only "got lucky" a couple of times, but when you live too fast, that's just the way it works out. Had to end strong--who doesn't love food, right? :)

@seanoneill shaved parm, fresh mozzarella, aged gouda, feta. Anything. The thinly sliced lemon complements anything really. :)

oh man you are making me hungry , great capture

Great food shot! This looks so appetizing. I like the dof.
April 21st, 2014
Oh wow, looks great and appealing.

Looks and sounds good, Daryl, well done. We have our own preserved lemons, nearly ready to go. I'd have to go feta or mozzarella though, I'm the only one here that loves goats cheese. We have a local variety that is coated in ash and I think that puts them off!

Looks beautiful. I needed you to guide my grocery shopping over the last month of obscure food.

I know I would love this combination! Must get some prosciutto!

Please vacuum pack this straightaway and send to Vignouse, Brittany, France - thank you in anticipation... and in the meantime I shall keep my gastric juices active by looking at your great photo at regular intervals!
April 22nd, 2014
@grammyn Sadly, I used to be a caterer and there's very little money in it. I am happiest in a market or in a kitchen (or at the grill). When I go on vacation, I just love cooking! So, like with photography, I'll be happy and poor. :)
April 22nd, 2014
@vignouse ahhh, Bretagne! J'ai fais des etudes a Paris il y a 25 ans! (And I've forgotten everything, but ahhhh, Bretagne!). My great hope is that I will travel to France again with my youngest daughter who is studying French now. I studied a year there in the 80's and I loved it so much (and the program I went with had several trips including Normandie and Bretagne--wonderful places!). When I come, I'll bring you a dish! ;)
April 22nd, 2014
AWesome shot and your catering background comes through. I'll save and fav so I can find it again and make it this summer. It will be a great lunch on the patio meal!
April 22nd, 2014
@vskolnik it's a keeper! So delish. Thanks for the bookmark fav! I always love sharing recipes. :)
April 22nd, 2014
@maggiemae I saw it in a Sam's Club (too much for just me), but I said to myself I needed this treat! I love prosciutto!
April 22nd, 2014
@6plus1blurred Oh, your own preserved lemons. A treat!!! Luckily, my husband likes goat cheese--but the kids, nope! More for me. :)
April 22nd, 2014
@taffy And that's exactly what I did--eat it on the patio--we had an honest-to-goodness spring day today. Thanks for the fav. I love sharing recipes and showing how good it can look. Super easy too--icing on the cake!

This looks delicious! Wonderful food shot!

Wonderful food shot!
April 22nd, 2014
@darylo Now i know why you didn't want ME to cook! ;~}
April 22nd, 2014
@grammyn When you visit me I'll cook for you. You can cook for me anytime! I've seen those dishes you've made girl. I believe @davette showed us a few of them. :)
April 22nd, 2014
@grammyn But I don't bake. That's my husband's specialty. :)
April 22nd, 2014
@darylo Well you can tell my husband has't been starving but I am not sure that is a good measure of my skills! more a testimony to his tolerance!
April 22nd, 2014
Delicioushhhhhhness:)
April 22nd, 2014
This looks so yummy! I had a hard time keeping up this time! I didn't realize I was overlapping Easter when I first posted the challenge! Looks like a good excuse for another!
April 22nd, 2014
That looks so good!
April 22nd, 2014
@darylo When you come to Brittany Daryl, I'll cook you a dish. You make this as the starter and I'll do a tagine with my own preserved lemons, seeing as you like them; and, just because I prefer it, I would serve it with polenta rather than couscous.
April 22nd, 2014
Now that looks very, very tasty!
April 22nd, 2014
@vignouse yum!!
April 22nd, 2014
@orangecrush anytime ;)
April 22nd, 2014
It looks wonderful, except I'm not so sure about the lemon slices, although they add great color to the photo. Linda is an amazing cook, and it is a good think because I am not. I'm famous for setting an apple pie on fire.
April 22nd, 2014
@rvwalker you'll just have to trust me on the lemon. Sliced very thin or just use the juice. Promise. :)
April 22nd, 2014
@rvwalker My husband is famous for the raw hamburger he cooked on the grill. I just finished cleaning the grill today and will keep my post there too. Hehe. But he is the best baker on the planet and I would burn a pie too!
April 22nd, 2014
This looks and sounds wonderful, Daryl! I'll have to try the combo very soon!
April 22nd, 2014
That looks so good!!!! :)
April 22nd, 2014
Absolutely a delicious shot!
April 22nd, 2014
@darylo I didn't just burn it, Daryl. It went up in flames!
April 23rd, 2014
@rvwalker That must be a real good story to hear and tell! :)
April 23rd, 2014
Uh...that looks GREAT! My kind of food!
April 24th, 2014
Joe
Oh so NOT fair! Good thing you can't see me licking the monitor. :-P 'Nuff said.
April 26th, 2014
YUM! Great food shot and thanks for sharing the recipe. Will need to try this sometime. Sounds so good.
April 29th, 2014
DEliscious!!! And now I am starving. Should be on a menu!
April 30th, 2014
POV, focus, variety in the subject, (so more visual interest) and light are some of the things that make this one more appealing to me. I would say up the contrast just a tad and call it good.
