Hey David if you're on Facebook you're welcome to join our Brisbane 365 group. We organise meet-ups every now and then. - 365 Brisbane Sunshine Coast is the name of the group.
@tulipgirl@paige3@sugarmuser - thanks for the comments & favs. @tulipgirl - I do not pretend to be any sort of PS guru & what I have done here is way down the shallow end of the learning curve. If you use PS or Gimp or any number of other programs that include layer masks I am sure you & YouTube could do it. As for the tea set, all I can say is my wife was out for the day & it's easier to seek forgiveness than permission.
@tulipgirl - thanks for the group invite. I have sent a request. @colosimo - I do hope to revisit my original plan. I have a friend with a 100mm macro lens that might get me over the line.
@tulipgirl@northy - I saw the PP comments and honestly had no idea what you meant. I'm fairly new here so I had to Google it! So thanks for the heads on that and thanks to everybody who helped get it on the PP.
Just thought I would let you know. I have been looking everywhere for this photo. I thought it was on DPS. It was here all along. Since I wasn't finding it, I tried to recreate it...results were not particularly good.
@david68 I don't think I can compete with this. It is perfect. I don't think that I have a fast enough lens...and I am a little afraid of breaking my teapot. How did you lift it up like that?
@debrac My son was holding the tea pot up so there is no trick there. I think the lens speed shouldn't be an issue because there is usually something you can do to compensate. The lens I used is a 24-105 F4 which is not especially fast. I turned the flash to the side, pointing it at a mirror so I didn't get the blown out flash look but you could do that with a diffuser or something. If you only have on camera flash, you or someone else could hold a mirror, reflective card or even white paper in front of it to bounce the light to the side or off the ceiling. Alternatively, use another light source like a flash light that you can position where you need to & selectively illuminate the subject. Let me know how you go.
