This shot is of the wood carvings at the front of our church building behind the main stage. It consists of three planks of wood taken from the same tree, and carved with outlines of the crucifix.
It is an original piece of art from a carver in the Borders of Scotland. and I think it is a subtle and tasteful piece of work - not too religious.
Being a follower of Jesus is not about icons and religion, but a real relationship with a living God every day. Jesus's victory over death and return to life we particularly celebrate today; and I hope you have a good day too!
mm - as someone who finds a liturgical church and form of worship more helpful, I get very fed up with being told that my faith is second class. Personally, I cannot find any space to listen to the "still small voice" in loud band led worship, but I accept others find it helpful. I also think this "there is only one proper way to do this" attitude doesn't leave enough ways for people to find their way to God and faith.
And I'm working for peanuts for a Christian charity and is living sacrificially to do so, so you really can't judge people by their church choices.
@shanne Hi Shanne. Oh dear, I do apologise if I have offended you or anyone - it was not the intention in the least! In fact the opposite, as I am just celebrating the joy of the Good News that is Jesus. I discovered this for myself as an adult, and I know it does not matter what style anyone uses to worship and relate to God, as long and one does! Loud and quiet, contemplative and exuberant, there is a place for all our emotions in this relationship. I am not judging anyone and do hope that you are knowing God's blessings in your work. A Happy Easter to you!
That's beautiful - isn't there something very special about wood as a resource for creativity! Love your thoughts and it was so nice to meet up yesterday! Hope you like our photo! http://365project.org/sarah19/moving-on/2012-04-07
This is a beautiful shot. Love all the different hues of the wood and I really like all the differen lines of the crosses. They are slightly curved, especially the two on the right hand plank (that almost look like a hug), rather than straight and rigid, reflecting a God whose love encompasses all.
