I don't usually brag about my kids... but I'm going to brag about my kid for a minute :) My 10 year old *M" must have been switched at birth because she's way more social conscious than anyone else in my family. She is very concerned about the environment and freaks out whenever I mistakenly put a recyclable item in the wrong bin (whoops, it happens, sorry!). When she heard that her school was hosting a "Trashion Show" to raise awareness for re-using items that you already own instead of throwing them away, she was ALL OVER IT. She quickly agreed to participate by desigining her own dress for the show. Her concept was simple: She made a dress completely out of newspaper. Pretty darn stylish, don't you think? It's strapless yet classy, so it meets with my approval.. and the newspaper is the Wall Street Journal so it meets with dad's approval, LOL. Anyway, she did this totally on her own. I am just so proud. She tried it on today and then we carefully cut it off of her and on Wednesday I will tape it back on her before the show. She just may have to add "fashion designer" to her list of talents!
OH my gosh!!! I never knew news paper could be so beautiful and IN !! Hey, I find nothing wrong with bragging about your kids :) SHe is adorable! and very smart....must get it from SOMEBODY! .... you? ;) She is also very creative...I have a feeling she has a bright future ahead of her :)
LOL Lauren, kids can be so creative huh? Believe me I am not this creative haha. Thanks Summer I will tell her you said so! She will be so happy to hear that :)
she is soooo talented and kudo for her for the awareness of environment at her age! you do have something to brag about it! not mention that dress looks fabulous on her! she can go on Project Runway for that ( one of my fav reality shows:)
What's not to LOVE about this dress and the adorable, budding fashion designer! Looking at the front, in the mirror, she has great color balance and proportion in the top. The skirt is too fabulous...it has pizzaz when she could have easily missed the mark. I know she'll shine at the fashion show and come home glowing...as it should be!
I love everything about this photo: your daughter's creativity and commitment to a cause, her proud pose, the design of her dress, and your parental pride. Bravo!
aww thanks everyone, *M* read all your comments and is so touched. She really didn't expect such great feedback. It is so nice of all of you to encourage her.
I had no idea from the thumbnail that the dress was made out of newspaper - what caught my eye was the lines of the dress (and your daughter's smile) so I wanted to see more. Amazing!
when I was a child we use to do this at my birthday parties. We called it newspaper fashion. We would team up in twos, one would be the model and the other the designer. We had 30 mintues to put together an outfit on our model and then we did a run way show! So fun!!
Like Tayna said from my thoughts "Ans she is only 10?" OMgoodness most 10 yrs old are well I was going to say playing with Barbies, but maybe I am way behind the times. This is a very smart and talented young girl, and I hope the whole family are very proud of her.
