Today was lovely, the coolest day yet with gentle breezes. I was able to walk around the city comfortably--went to the Public Garden and fed squirrels, walked along Marlborough Street looking at buildings and gardens, and shopped at the Farmers Market in Copley Square.
The farmers have had a tough summer, which has been the driest ever recorded in Boston. The whole eastern part of Massachusetts is in extreme drought. Farmers have had to make decisions to let some crops go in order to use the precious water for other crops. Most of them don't have irrigation systems because they're not normally needed in this part of the country.
Almost the entire peach crop in the state was lost, although for a different reason. We had some unusually mild weather in the winter, followed by a very deep freeze on Valentine's Day--I think it got down to 9 degrees below zero (F) that night, and I think that's what did in the peaches. I really miss them as I adore peaches.
In spite of it all, the Farmers Market looked quite colorful today.
What a miserable season it has been for your farmers. Ouch! The weather this year has been so confused. Love the colorful shot you posted here -everything looks so healthy and delicious. The combination made a really nice collage.
