They that go down to the sea in ships

These will be the last photos I post from the Gloucester Schooner Festival.

On the left is a working boat that was going about its business in the midst of the Schooner Festival. You can just see the spectators on the promenade in the upper right, watching the sailboats while the gulls are more interested in this boat.

In the center is Columbia, the winner of the race. It won last year too.

On the right is the famous Fisherman at the Wheel sculpture on the promenade looking out over the outer harbor, dedicated to "they who go down to the sea in ships 1623-1923." There are over 5,000 names of Gloucester fisherman who were lost at sea on the wall nearby, listed year by year. Fortunately there are not as many in recent years as there used to be.
A super collage

What an interesting collage - love the beautiful ship Columbia - those old boats really are spectacular.
