What is this bright yellow vegetation?

Yesterday on the west side of the Pond I came upon patches of this bright yellow grass (?) along with strands of the green kind. I don't remember ever seeing this before. Does anyone know what it is?

Today it snowed most of the day, although only an inch or two stuck to the ground. I stayed inside; one of the things I love about retirement is not having to go out if the weather is unsuitable. Tonight and all weekend there will be another Arctic blast from Canada--frigid temperatures and strong wind.

I am really worried about the peach trees in the small farms west of Boston. This back and forth weather (from record highs in late February to way below average temperatures on some of the March days) can be really damaging to them. Last year the entire peach crop in Massachusetts was lost due to the same pattern of unseasonably warm temperatures in the winter and then an extreme cold snap. I missed the peaches terribly at the farmers market.

Next Tuesday there may be a classic nor'easter with high winds and a foot of snow according to some of the early predictions. I like the snow, although I do enjoy it more earlier in the winter. We hardly had any in December and January, when I would have loved it the most.
I have no idea what this is but it's quite attractive, Well captured Deborah.
