Burrage House Side Elevation by deborahsimmerman

Burrage House Side Elevation

This is a building in the Chateauesque style in the Back Bay on the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Hereford Street. It's very unusual for Boston, in fact I think it might be the only one of its kind. This is only part of the side elevation. It was built in 1899 as a single family home and lived in by family members until 1947. After that it was used for various purposes, such as an elder care facility, and in recent years it has been made into condominiums. I rather like the building--it's like a French fantasy castle in the midst of Back Bay Boston.

I was walking around in the slightly warmer weather this afternoon. The ice on the sidewalks was melting, so it felt safer. I had been at the WGBH broadcast at the library.
Beautiful building!
