We already got rid of our home phone and the next thing to go is the cable TV. Going internet all the way. We're in the process of researching our options but this is one bill that keeps climbing ridiculously and just isn't worth it anymore. Maybe I should have titled this "All Off".
Call me old fashioned, but I'm hanging on to a few of the "oldies!" The phone and the cable are still connected. Still ... it may be time to rethink it all .. love your pov here and good luck with getting connected with all of the latest technology. Why not?!!
We still have the land line because though we have great cell coverage in our house (thanks to an AT&T mini cell tower) not everyone in Oakesdale does and if we got rid of our land line then all call from the land lines to our cells would be long distance and we hate to do that to our friends... We do have out internet and phone combined so it has reduced both of the bills by a bit. And we have Dish TV, but I am also checking into TV via Wi-Fi. It would be great to get rid of some more bills! :)
Well i hate to be a wet noodle on this conversation but my husband handles all of that and I just try to go with the flow so I know NOTHING! On the other hand I like the photo ,Debbie! great close up!
We're just waiting for our contract to end and we're doing the same thing. The land phone has been gone a good while now. I personally could almost do without the cable altogether.
@BevAnneS -- We will get rid of cable totally. There's way too many options that don't cost the money I'm paying monthly for just a bump above the basic cable.
You know, since I have been invovled in 365, I have watched so little tv. I can't even teel you what programs are on anymore. My Wife plays the music stations a lot, but the kids watch it. Cable prices are out of control.
We haven't had cable or satellite TV in about 15 years or so. Don't miss it. Rabbit ears gets us the regular stations in case I want to watch football, but the TV is usually only on when we want to watch a movie that we've rented.
I was going to say about the same as someone above. I spend more time with 365 that I have shows backed up that I recorded forever. I am not a huge tv person and just got our bill from the company we deal with today and it went up $10, in August it goes up $20 more. We have a land line and internet so we are in the bundle mode. Looking at another option tomorrow to save now but all companies raise rates constantly. We have antennas on our tv's for times when the service we pay for goes out and antennas work better than what we pay for but get only a few channels. I could live without tv but my husband loves sports and not so easy to get online. Glad to know we are not in this alone. Good photo of what may be leaving our house in the near future, Debbie.
Good luck! Me? I stick with what I'm used to. I finally have my hubby's lap top down pat ;-) And won't even attempt to learn the Smart Phone. LOL! I do like the Internet connected land line & won't give that up.
I love that this has sparked some conversation. I'm sure we're all tired of paying for cable/dish and the fees are all such a game. I already catch up on some programs via hulu.com or directly thru the major station's websites. It's so easy to get what you want, when you want it for free now. We watch very little TV as well. For news, I can livestream that on the computer/TV. Internet TV is the way of the future...coming VERY quickly. Just like digital cameras came over film much faster than they anticipated (my brother worked for a major film processing company so that fact comes from them). Google bought a portion of Motorola and they are desperately trying to sell off the cable box division as are other companies that own similar. TVs and Blueray players have internet/wifi built right into them now. For what we watch, how we watch it, we don't need to see it as it's aired. We can catch up. Sometimes I want to just go live with the Amish and get rid of all the "stuff" that seems to compicate my life rather than make it easier. But, I guess, when you really think about it, it does simplify a lot but it also complicates a lot.
@debsphotos Good explanation. I can't imagine watching TV on a Smart phone or even an I-Pad. I like to sit (or lay) back, relax and watch my DVDs & a few shows (very few) on a regular TV set. Will never give up my old TV...LOL!
This is so cool! I love the perspective you've chosen-- very creative. We get our internet through the cable company, so not cuttung the cable any time soon :)
@maggotx -- Oh, it's all a silly game. But maybe I can buy a few years before they start socking it to everyone on the internet services. I am ready to just go live off the land someplace and be done with all of it but then where would that leave me with my pix??? ummm...that won't work.
Nice shot Debbie.....but sadly it will all balance out...The companies that own the cable, internet and phones will all collaborate to protect their interests and in most instances are the same.....the only answer if you dare,.....is to give it all up.....me ...I gave up smartphones...no need for instant gratification...
