As part of the Photographic Society of NZ conference, we had some great field trips. One of them was a day trip into the Marlborough Sounds (top of South Island). We were able to visit Motuara Island - a quite small island that is now a bird sanctuary. All the predators (rats, mice, stoats, ferrets, weasels etc) have been eradicated. We saw and heard heaps of birds, but these robins were my favourite. The conference was heaps of fun and learning - the displays and guest photographer/speakers were fantastic.
Sweetness personified! And how different NZ robins are from USA robins. I'll be posting some soon . . . but I am sure I won't be able to get this great of a photo!
Beautifully clear. I'm rubbish at bird photography, but I like to see shots of birds from all over the world. This is completely different to our robins and in the USA they are different again.
This is such a dear little bird - so well composed and focused - a fav. I have a photo of the South Is Robin taken on Takaka Hill a couple of years ago but mine was a bit blurry and definitely didn't have a gold breast, maybe a male/female thing.
A very different robin to ours...love his little fat body & I love those colours. Sounds a wonderful place! A bit like that place beginning with M near Cambridge North Island.
@happypat yes Maungatautari mainland island - at least on a real island like Motuara there was no fencing cost! It was an island filled with birdsong, bush and photo opportunities.
