Went with @julzmaioro to Thames today, to drop mum off so she can have a few days holiday with my sister and brother-in-law. We were both pretty impressed with this huge pohutukawa tree. It is covered with flower, while others have yet to begin flowering. As a consequence, we have both chosen this magnificent tree for our 365 shot today…..
@panthora Yes it can remind us of the bottlebrush, but it is rather different. The leaves are very waxy to withstand the salt winds and it is a very hardy tree, often seen clinging to coastal banks and overhanging the sea.
I'll make the same comment to you I made to Julia: Bloody Hell Julia/Dianne. That is a huge Pohotakawa. All the ones that I have ever seen have been no higher that a few metres. Fabulous tree Fav. ha ha ha
What a huge tree! We saw a lovely one a little further up towards Coromandel (not sure of the town but about 10-15 mins north. It had a whole lot of hanging foilage? on it which I hadn't seen before but I then noticed a couple since.
