Lost

This huhu beetle was in the wrong habitat! It was found down near the waterline when we were at Orua Bay. It should have been up in the native bush. Huhu grubs are big fat juicy wormlike creatures and are supposed to taste like peanut butter when roasted over an open fire - I cannot say I have ever tried them though.
He is well camoflaged .. and yes a little bit out of his usual enviroment ... I have tasted a Huhu grub a little peanut butter like .. but prefer to get mine out of a jar..

A super close-up with great detail - love the vein pattern on the body and those long antennae . I think I would prefer to just look at it rather than taste !!!!!

It has quite a pretty pattern, although looks similar to a cockroach.

Not sure I would want to taste a roasted Huhu bug, although I always say I will try something at least once. Nice capture of the beetle.

Think I'll leave the tasting to others thanks. But I like the shot of this little critter against the beach sand.
