This is Jim - a local firefighter. He is training for the Sky Tower challenge which is to be held in a couple of weeks time. Jim is 76 years old and has completed 52 years volunteer service in the fire brigade.
Last year, he was the oldest fireman to complete the challenge - 51 flights of stairs (1,103 stairs), wearing a breathing apparatus (around 20 kg) and he completed the challenge in 23 minutes! Jim is off to Wellington next week to be presented with his Queen's Service Medal. What a guy!
Wow Dianne, what a trouper Jim is! That Sky tower is a hard challenge, William has done it a couple of times & he's young & fit but says it's hard work! Must show him this post when he comes back from London. An amazing 76 year old a credit to himself & his community!
Lovely image of Jim , what a fantastic achievement at any age, and a well deserved recipient of the Queen's Service Medal, what an inspiration he is to us all:)
Holy cow, what an accomplishment! Congrats... what an accomplishment! I am pretty sure that I would be gasping at this challenge, so a hearty hug to him. :)
May we all stay healthy and fit like him! (I have a ways to go!)
A FAV!!
Thank you for sharing,it's a great capture.
Well deserved too.
That is dedication.
(The younger generations need to take a leap out of Jim's book) :)
