Taranaki fences

Taranaki is a very high rainfall area of NZ and lots of the fences grow moss on the posts and battens. Here's a few that we captured on our road trip.

These are beautiful, the moss makes them so. Is there a rainforest there? I cannot imagine an area getting so much rain that moss grows abundantly on the fences!
