"No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies." (Job 28:18)
As I was thinking about this week's theme I began thinking about all the "red" things I could photograph, I came up with several which I will post throughout the week as long as no one else has the same idea. I thought about my class ring which I have had stored in my safe for many years. My birthstone is ruby, so I thought, yes, great for the theme. I rarely wore it through the years, In fact when I graduated in 1972 I did not purchase a class ring. At that ime in my life, I truly disliked school. School was not important, and I could not wait until I graduated. When I did, I vowed to myself, never to return to school again. Those were probably the worst years of my life, very few good memories. Ten years later things began to happen in my life, and that is when I decided that it was time to return to school so I could try do something different with my life. There are many young people who dislike school, and it is sad, because they miss out on so much. It is never too late to go back to school, but it would be muich better to apply yourself now while you are young and everything is fresh in your mind. I wish young people would take advantage of all the opportunities available to them. My advice to the young person out there, learn as much as you possibly can. You will never be sorry. Your investment today will earn great dividends in your future.
Yup, I agree wisdom is very important. You just never stop learning! Wonderful idea for a picture. Thank you for sharing....and I'm looking foward to your other ideas.
Great picture for the theme. I agree that education is important and that all the young people out there should stay in school get a college degree of any sort to give them more opportunities in life.
What wonderful words to read! You've certainly set your life on a marvelous path, and it's evident you came around to love education as you share so much with us here! I'm happy for you in the way it all worked out. (And I quite like your new profile picture!)
great picture and the way you described how you felt about school is exactly how my son feels---he hates high school and it makes me so sad---I hope he has a change of heart one day like you did----as far as the senior ring---your picture reminded me of mine---I saved up my money and bought mine---2 weeks later I lost it because it was too big!!! I was sooo upset!! :)
Well said, Im a youth worker and I have to drill it into my disengaged kids every day at work, if they put in now at school it will pay off. Im still searching for a 'red' themed photo for today...
Your beautiful picture and heartfelt comments have touched a response in many people. Don't beat yourself up too much. I was a good student and an honor grad in college and yet when I look back at my choices I think I could have done much better if only I had really appreciated the opportunities i was being offered. You know the expression, "Youth is wasted on the young"? It is in our nature to learn from our mistakes. You wouldn't be the person you are today if you hadn't traveled the road you did, bumps and all. Each of us has to make that journey in our own way and with God's grace, we'll each get to the place we are meant to be.
I'm a big proponent of returning to school, it's never too late to change direction (I've done it several times!) So, good for you. This ring is huge--do you ever wear it or is it just a keepsake?
Just a wonderful photo. Love your story - soooo true - every word of it.
About my photo & your comment of the candidates - the answer is no they are not very good candidates :( but we have no choice really - we ended up wih a hung parliament & they are still battling it out & will be for a wile by the sound of it.
okay so my honest opinion about school.... its oookkaaayyy. I hate the getting up early and all the time it takes out of my day and all the busy work teachers asign and presentations and stuff.... but I do try to do my best. I am taking AP courses and am in other honors classes. I am trying to see the pros and to look on the bright side of going to school and keep the next fall break or spring break in mind to keep me going lol I agree with your caption though... I dont FEEL like what I'm doing now is going to pay off... but I know when I grow up I'll learn that either what I did was beneficial to my success.. or the things I COULD have done to make the "present' better.
funny that you added this picture TODAY too.. because I JUST got a class ring!! I picked it up TODAY!!! :) Mine is a little smaller, and has a purple stone in the center. I was born in January...so the purple color is not my birth stone (what month is your stone?? it kind of looks like january I think...) but purple is my FAVORITE color so thats why I chose it. Mine is so small I could only fit my name and my class of 2011 on it... I did get NHS inscribed on the inside though because that is a program I am proud to be a part of. so yes, I am very excited... I was thinking about taking a picture of it... too bad the colr this week isnt "purple" lol
great entry for the theme!! I like your ring a lot... and the way you phtographed it works really really well.
It's a beautiful ring, Rick!! Both my kids are in July and are Rubys.
Sad that you didn't have a good time in school. I absolutely loved school but ended up dropping out because of the things that were happening at the school. It was dangerous to go so I didn't. I've regretted it at times but figure I wouldn't change it because if I did, I wouldn't have my kids and my grandkids, or my hubby. I'm very happy with my life, other than my health.
Love the new profile pic too. I keep thinking I want to update mine.
Beautiful pic! I love the focus. And I agree with you. I got my bachelor degree a few months ago. It was very hard, working at the same time, personal stuff hapenning, and I thought about giving up or taking a break, but I'm so glad I finaly did it.
This is so funny. Not the picture...I really like it. My husband graduated in 1972 and has a Saffire class ring just about like this. I almost took a picture of it on the 10th because it was our 39th anniversary of the day we went STEADY! But it was in the safe deposit box at the bank.
Hey Rick....would you believe that the first picture that I checked out was this picture. I could not believe my eyes when I saw your name and picture there. Great picture and advice for kids that are in trouble. Kaye
