The sky again was so beautiful this morning. We had a hint of rain early this morning, but as the sun began to rise in the Eastern sky, the threat of rain soon vanished. I was amazed at the stunning colors as they began bleeding through the darkened clouds and over the hillsides, bringing them to life. The morning skies are so full of wonderful surprises. That is one thing I truly enjoy about my drive to work every day, it is never the same. I have driven the same basic route now for eight and a half years, and I can still see something different each morning. For those of us who have grown to love and appreciate the art of photography, we have taught ourselves to look beyond what lies directly in front of us. We have trained ourselves to delve into our surroundings, to look for beauty in all those strange places. As photographers we can help others come to realize and appreciate the beauty around them. This B/W sunrise tells me that even without its color, the beauty still speaks volumes. Why? It's a matter of training our eyes to see beyond the surface, to look beyond the colors and the shapes. So it is with other people we meet. We need to learn how to look beyond the superficial, to find that inner beauty, that "thing" that defines them as the beautiful person they are.
The B&W brings out the depth and contrasts. Interesting, I would never have thought of converting a sunrise to B&W. Thanks for showing us new possibilities.
What a thoughtful commentary you have written for this inspiring photo. I would love to see you meditations collected in a book along with your photographs.
Your words are always full of wisdom Rick, we do indeed need to look past the superficial, at the inner beauty & it really is there in each & everyone of us..
Oh, I meant to say that Yes it was a Bozo the Clown book. I am not familiar with these books, not being from the USA & had no idea it was so widly known..
How beautiful, Rick! What a dramatic sky! I particularly enjoyed your commentary! It's all so true - photography opens your eyes to the everyday beauty that lies withing anything and everyone! it's all there for us to see it, we just need to choose to notice it!
Again so true...the B&W really accentuates the layers and the shades of gray. I've always seen things first in terms of shape, pattern and form. A bit like doing a puzzle...do you do it using the whole picture or the colours and shapes on each individual piece.
What a good lesson there is in your beautiful photo! Seems easy to translate what we see visually into what we know it to be... The goodness in you comes through all your work and comments, Rick...thanks for being a part of my circle of friends.
I agree with your comment about looking beyond what meets the eye.It makes me think of the saying "beauty is only skin deep "I can imagine how colourful this sunset must have looked, but the b&w does not detract from the beauty of the picture .
I would never think to make a sunrise in a b/w format, but when I look at this one I get how it works to our eye. We are amazing creatures, aren't we? :) Amazing photo.
Great photo and a wonderful commentary! Yes, I do believe everything you spoke about is true. We can see the colors and the beauty of this photo even if there is no color. Amazing job!
