This old church stands about three blocks from where I live. Coming home from work this evening I noticed the sun shining across the front of the church. I thought it offered a nice touch to the beautiful stone structure, and it brought out the color of the stained glass windows. I am so happy for some of these beautiful structures. It provides a nice reminder as to how beautiful this town was at one time. Even though our town is blessed with beautifully restored and maintained pieces of architecture like this scattered throughout, the immediate area quickly changes into streets strewd with trash, and houses that are in desperate need of repairs. Our immediate area is filled with slum lords, and they put no money back into their properties. As long as they can rent them and get their money, that satisfies them. Our home belonged to my Grandparents, and its been in the family for at least 75 years. The area has changed drastically, and it is a shame and very disappointing to see the once flourishing town, literally going to ruin.
This is beautiful -- the Sun makes the church look like its glowing.
I know its the glow of sunlight -- but maybe for some it would also be the glow of son-light.
I rememeber Lebanon as a really beautiful quaint town with a lot of character................much like all the other towns in the area. i guess we don't look too closly to see any ruin. This looks like a very well kept church. Beautiful lighting.
Such a beautiful church Rick & nicely captured, you can almost count the bricks, it's so clear - sadly these lovely old ones belong to a past era. I guess all of the decay & slum landlords can be described as Greed gone horribly wrong..
Beautiful photo of a beautiful church, I love the sun beam. Your words are very thought provoking. Many times I feel like I'm walking around in a land of "industrial fossils."
Beautiful! I am in awe of the craftsmanship and skill evident inthese older buildings. Hopefully your area will recover at some point from the slum lords.
Right place...right time! What beautiful lighting! I'm glad an image like this offers solice when much else around you seems to be failing. I'm sorry to hear that for you. (I wouldn't know what to do with the interior of a computer tower...if that's what they're called...but I'm grateful someone with a can of compressed air knew how to fix it!)
I read my husband your description of the current state of your hometown and his observation was, "You could say that about 60% of the towns in the U.S." I'm not quite that cynical but we have traveled through the towns of central PA where he is from and have seen many of them languishing. We just don't seem to have the pride in history that countries of the "Old World" have.
Wow, what a wonderful historical attachment to your house, very special!! I'd love to see a photo of it. And yes, such a shame to see the languishing of our 'places' in the world, especially when it is due to greed and apathy.
I know its the glow of sunlight -- but maybe for some it would also be the glow of son-light.
