This particular water pitcher and basin was used by my Grandmother's Parents, as it was a common household item years ago before modern plumbing found its way into homes. For years my Grandmother had it safely packed away in her closet. When she passed away in 1985, this is one of several pieces I was able to acquire from their estate. Since we now live in their home, it seems most content to be out where others are able to see it. It adds to the many fond memories of my childhood and my visits here to the same home I now live in.
Rick! What a lovely story attached to your washbowl & jug photo.
My brother has a set similar to yours, from our Grandmother.
It's good to see it back in it's original "home".
What special memories! That's so awesome that you live in your gramdmother's house. I sense you really value family and tradition.
I have lost the heirlooms I had from my grandmother and while "stuff" isn't important the memories attached to it are.
This is beautiful. My sister has one of those in her house from our grandmother and it is a treasure. I like the way the leaves look like they are about to pop out of the picture.
What a lovely retelling of your childhood memories, Rick! I love that you're a sentimental man...it comes through in your writing, and especially today. I love vintage items with history behind them though I don't have many family pieces. To live in my grandmother's lovely old home would have been a dream come true. How marvelous that you get to live out that scenario!
You are so fortunate to have the continuity of living in your grandparents' house. U.S. families are so mobile, it is rare indeed to have such a connection. I treasure every keepsake that have from past generations. I like the way you have arranged this picture and the living plant to give it some vitality.
This is perfect for the theme...well because one, it fits perfectly into the theme!! :D...but two... it actually MEANS something to you.
I'm glad you were able to keep something so beautiful from your Grandmother to remember her and fond memories by.
Beautiful, Rick! I was just speaking to a friend today and telling them about how every time I smell apples I think of my great grandma. Such special memories!
