October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a great deal of effort is put forth to alert women of the importance of self breast exams and routine mammograms, especially those with a family history. It is critical, and it's a great cause. Well men, beware. Even though breast cancer is rare in men, it can and does affects us. Gynecomastia or overdeveloped breast tissue in the male is the most common male breast condition. Malignancy can occur in the male breast, but this is infrequent. Typically, the average age of diagnosis in men is about 10 years older than that of women. Diagnosis and treatment is about the same for both females and males. It is rare, but still male breast cancer accounts for about 1% of the cases. In comparison, there are approximately 480 deaths annually for men, and 40,000 annually for women. It is 100 more times common in women, BUT, men, the risk is still there. Symptoms are much the same. If you notice something wrong, a lump, pain around the nipple, drainage, get it checked. I thought we might as well get the word out to the guys too.
This is just great. Rick. In my daughter's breast cancer support group one of their first members was a man. He died!! Men NEED to be aware and check themselves too.
Bravo!! Was going to do a guys alert to breast cancer later next week, you beat me too it.. thank you!!! We get caught up in the cancers that are "out there" and forgot the lesser known ones.... Great picture :)
Great shot! Good for you addressing the men. I don't think a lot realize they can get it also. My husband was surprised when he heard. My daughter and neice will be doing the 3-day walk for the 4th year next month. Their goal is to walk in each state that does it. We do fundraisers monthly to help raise money for the cause! I just heard they are making strides toward the cure! YEAH!
Good message Rick!
I have been so inpressed with the way the NFL have added pink to their uniforms this month. That is great to increase Guy's awareness!
Awesome pic and well job for specifically targeting it for males, I've just been general but it is important for males to be just as diligant as females..
