My activity has been limited for the past two days due to the muscle spasms I have been having in my back, so I haven't been able to get out and about. This has forced me to look around the house for suitable objects to photograph. I came across these roses that were in a vase, standing on the library table in our front hallway. My Wife bought them several months ago from a friend at work. They are made from wood. As I looked at it I couldn't help but be amazed at the craftmanship, the talent of the individual who was able to take a simple piece of wood and craft it into a beautiful rose such as this. So it is with so many people and the talents they possess. Off the top of my head I think of Mary, she has a gift for creating sculptures, Barbara, she has a gift for painting, Louise, I believe she has the gift of hospitality, and then Michael and Barbara, they have the gift of painting, and others on here like Jaydee, Hellcat, Dalia, and so many others who I could mention have a unique gift for photography. We all have gifts that can be used to touch the lives of others. There are so many opportunities out there to help if we make ourselves available. I think it is so important to use the gifts that God has given us.
really beautiful shot, rick... always love roses when they are just about to bloom... when the colors are still going through the change.... such as your shot....
beautifully said. and i can't believe that's made from wood--amazing!
and i believe you have the gift of encouragement, rick. thank you so much for always taking time to thoughtfully comment not only on my photos, but also on brock's. we both appreciate your kind words.
Sorry that your back is playing up, Rick. Rest and take it easy. I thought this was a real flower. How can someone be so talented with wood? Amazing. I think your photo does it total justice - lovely shot.
beautiful! I've seen those before and they are truly amazing, delicate and rather unexpected, surprising when you reach out to touch them. Hope your back feels better soon.
Sometimes being forced to use only what you already have (i.e. around your house) makes you draw on your skills more. Case in point, this picture. It is (fairly) easy to create a masterpiece from a beautiful sunset or waterfall, but to make such a special composition -- and with your usual insight commentary -- can be a real challenge. Well done. Hope your back is better.
Awesomw Rick, both the rose, the photo, and your words. As my wise ole Uncle Joe says: we have everything that money can't buy. My prayers are expressed for your back problems.
I agree...it's important to share the gifts that we have with others. This doesn't even look like wood. I am amazed....What a wonderful picture for today. Feel better!
This is a beautiful rose -- I could not tell that it was made of wood until I read your commentary. Your commentary expresses truths that are good to remember and live by -- similar I think to the meaning of the phrase, "Bloom where you are planted" -- use the gift you have been given.
The rose is very realistic , nice shot, I am sorry to hear you are still having back trouble, hope it improves soon, you must be getting fed up of being house bound !
To have crafted roses that beautiful, the artist certainly posessed a Gift that give him such skill! Looking at your lovely photo, I never guessed that these were other than natural petals! Though I feel badly for you that your activities are limited by back pain, perhaps it's provided the opportunity to look around you and re-appreciate what surrounds you daily. I think photography, and focusing through a lens, singles out the details. Thank you for your always-kind words, and for the note above... I was in full agreement with your assesment of so many others in our community, all known to us by first name alone. What a charming place this is for us to congregate. You may not be able to leave your house for the moment, but you're surrounded in spirit by your friends from around the world...
You've beautifully captured this surprisingly life like rose. I love your sentiments along with this image. Honestly, I used to just be jealous of others gifts and talents but God has been teaching me to admire and learn from others. I feel like that's what happening in this 365 forum. I have come to admire so many gifted and talented artists and photographers on this site.
