Last year my grandaughter bought me this cute little memo pad and pen. I am sentimental, and I could never get myself to use it, so its been in a drawer. Well this Christmas she found it in the drawer and she said, "Grandpa. this is the notebook I bought you last year, and you haven't used it." I explained to her that I considered it a very special gift since it came from her, and that I wanted to save it as a keepsake. I'm not sure she really understood where I was coming from, but she did smile at me. This year she bought me a tape measure, probably hoping that I would use it quicker than the notepad.
what a fantastic little notebook! You know what you COULD do with that? Write little notes to her. You know, little things you remember or things you two do together. Then, one day, when it is full, and she is old enough to appreciate it, give it to her :-) It would be priceless for her to have her memories captured by grandpa ....... I gave my grandmother one, well it was more like a journal. Asked her to write in there, things from her childhood, so that I would have it when I have children. She passed away, and as we were going through her stuff, we found it :-) Although, she didnt have much written, I still cherish it, as it is her writing, and her thoughts, so its special ....
Sometimes I have saved things til they weren't usable. That certainly wouldn't be the case here but hey, life is to be lived. Have fun doing what Dee suggested.
Ahhhhh, that's so sweet of her and you. You could place it somewhere visable and write a few little love notes about her, and just them stay in the notebook. If I had a grandgirl, that's what I do. And I like to boss people around, so that's my bossy idea to Rick.
I love this photo. And the story behind it. Makes you wonder what kids are thinking sometimes when we tell them these things. I myself have a box for my only child who is grown. I have always put things in it since he was little and still do it some. Pictures etc. When I die, I want him to find it, go through it and have great memories. Silly I know,,,but,,,,,,,,,,
Awwww, that is so sweet! I still have all of the little gifts my kids bought me in elementary school. Couldn't bear to use them either. Didn't really think about it hurting their feelings.
I love Dee's idea too. I would write in it for her, if it were mine. What a lovely thing to find when you are no longe around to tell her what you think or how you feel. I remember when I was young I bought my Dad a big notepad in a holder for his desk at work. I found it later and he had never used it. I was quite disppointed because I thought it was a really useful present. This has made me want to start making books and boxes for my children to find when I am gone. We lose so much when our elders pass on with all their knowledge.
