I went out for a short drive today to see if I could get a few photos, but it was dreary, raining, and though I did get a few that I liked, I also stumbled across this one. I found it interesting. I was at a stop sign, no cars behind me, so I figured I would grab the shot. The road looks as if it goes nowhere, and it came to mind that many of us probably at one point in our lives thought we were going nowhere. But, as many of us have learned, once we were willing to take some risks, to follow our dreams, to pursue our goals, we soon found out that the road we chose did take us closer to where we wanted to go. Unfortunately we do not always have the luxury of knowing the outcome of our choices. When we decide to follow a certain path in school, start a new job, start a new realtionship, often the outcome depends on how much we are willing to invest in the choices we make. In our life we will face many opportunities, and we must decide whether to pursue it or to pass it by. Do we turn them all down because we do not know where the journey will lead? No. Is it a bit unsettling changing directions in life? Yes. It depends on us. It depends on where we want to go, what we want to accomplish. We must be willing to invest if we want to see some return. That's true in all areas of life. If you are one of those who must know everything before you make a choice, or if you are one of those who tend to close the open doors that pop up in life without even looking at the possibilities encountered, then you may find yourself going nowhere. Life is short, too short to sell yourself short. Pursue your possibilities, your interests. There may be a whole new world out there waiting for you.
Great advice...and I probably needed to hear that right now too! Thanks :) This picture also makes me think about how sometimes life can seem like an uphill climb.
I like the graininess of this image, especially with your words. You are so right, and from reading all that you have written over the months I think that I would enjoy listening to your thoughts over a cup of coffee. You are truly an insightful individual.
Very insprng words, Rick! and life is like that - it's a big hard climb before you start taking it easy and ofthen you don't know when you get to the top what is is that awaits you there. Very nice shot!
Love what you said! We turn our lives upside down every couple of years and take on a new country, new home, new friends, new job often sight unseen absolutely its a challenge (some countries/jobs never get any less challenging as time goes by) but its also an adventure and I wouldnt have it any other way.
Love the photo too. It would make a great album cover for a country or blues album.
Rick, I LOVE this...I think you need to take some of your photos and commentary and publish them...I am serious! Motivational/Inspirational books are popular and you are so good at it.
I have experienced roads like this...as you are going up you can't wait to see what is on the other side...and then as you reach the crest and start the decline your tummy starts getting those flip-flopping butterflies...so I guess that is like life...a new adventure, a new job, a new baby...just gives you butterflies but it is much better than driving around on the same roads every day!
Wow,,,,I really do love this photo. We also have steep hills here, but I just never seen it this way. Maybe I should look closer at whats around me better. Absolutely awsome shot and frame.
AWESOME image and your words are a perfect match. I agree with Karen, you have a real gift for combining inspirtional words and images into a memorable message.
When I saw this photo and the title I thought about this song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx3m4e45bTo
