The other day my Wife and I came home, and I noticed this huge white ball of fur in our neighbor's yard. At first I wasn't sure what it was, but then as I walked closer I saw it was a rabbit. The neighbor was out so I commented, I see you bought a bunny for Olivia. He informed us, no, it just showed up. Apparently someone must have grown tired of the responsibility of caring for it, and decided to drop it off somewhere. Their little girl who is three has named it Cotton however, they do not plan on keeping it. So we are in the process of trying to find it a home. It is totally tame, and in the meanwhile it has free run of their yard, and Olivia frequently feeds it carrots. As you can see, it also mingles with the wild ones, and they get along just fine. Now isn't that just a fine example for us fine educated humans. Though there are obvious differences in color and breed, it is still possible to get along. Oh my, wouldn't that be an answer to prayer. Have a great evening.
Wow! That's amazing. I can't believe that a tame or domesticed rabbit would be able to survive. I just had no idea. I also think it's amazing that you were able to take a picture with both of them in it. Good lessons about what people should do.
Thats one fluffy bunny.. So sad that someone would ditch him. I had a bunny that thought it was a cat (it grew up with a litter of kittens we had). When he got old enough, he went looking for a wife with the wild rabbits.. After awhile he stopped comming home. Hope had had a nice family.. And same to this one.
How cute and perfect name, Cotton. What a shame some cannot be responsible but I am glad the bunny was dropped off by your neighbor's and you. I know the bunny will find a loving home with your help.
How cute. We had many rabbits over the years as well as a wide variety of other animals. Maybe you should keep it Rick!!! Love
this picture and your
thoughts. It would be so nice if people could see past color and other differences.
I luv your ending thoughts too!! So great that u were able to capture them in the same shot!! Both such great looking animals! If I were closer, I would take cotton!!! So cute!!
You know, it's easy to get angry that people just drop animals off like that when there are places to take them in and find them good homes, but times are so tough lately, I think people do desparate things without really thinking. Thankfully for little Cotton, he landed in a place where people will take good care of him. I hope he gets a lifetime home real soon. Cute shot, and as always, thoughtful words to go with it!
Aww, he's so cute! It makes me so angry when people just release their pets into the wild because they no longer want the responsibility of caring for them. It sounds like Cotton ended up wandering into the right yard... hopefully they can find a good forever home for him.
We had a tame rabbit down our farm track for years, he was black & white, & he mixed perfectly well all that time with the wild rabbits. This is a lovely capture of these sweet rabbits & I like your framing too !! Your words are so true !
Its so cute..I would keep it..my kids had one once )all white too) when they were small..but somehow it got lost...at that time we had a marina and there were alway the boaters around..who knows?
A number of years ago a children's picture book by Garth Williams titled The Rabbits' Wedding created quite a controversy because it told the story of the nuptials of a black bunny and a white bunny. People can be so dense. This is a lovely capture. Hope this story has a happy ending.
I love this shot! It's so unusual and as always your reflections on your photo are inspiring and thought provoking. Even though it is sad that someone dumped such a beautiful bunny, he (or she) sure landed in the right neighborhood. Please let us know when Cotton finds a permanent home.
What a darling photo! Oh, Goodness, how can anyone resist keeping "Cotton"?! That's the cutest! I hope she finds a perfect, loving home...and as several people on 365 know, having shared their little guys, they make pretty good house pets!
Such a cutie! My friend just started a bunny nonprofit to help educate people on bunny care and such. Here are the links. Maybe they can help find it a home. http://www.basketsforbunnies.org/ and http://www.facebook.com/flopsylopsy if you have an fb account you can contact her there. Hope that helps.
How cool to get a shot of both of them! We've got wild rabbits (cottontails) on our property & they scatter FAST anytime I try to get a little close with a camera. That's so awesome that they get along so well.
How adorable!! You know, I'm always amazed when people just let a pet go in the wild. That is worse than turning it in to a shelter since a house pet has no clue how to fend for itself outside. Thank goodness you are trying to find a home for it.
Love the fluffy white one... so gorgeously glam.
