Getting Along by digitalrn

Getting Along

The other day my Wife and I came home, and I noticed this huge white ball of fur in our neighbor's yard. At first I wasn't sure what it was, but then as I walked closer I saw it was a rabbit. The neighbor was out so I commented, I see you bought a bunny for Olivia. He informed us, no, it just showed up. Apparently someone must have grown tired of the responsibility of caring for it, and decided to drop it off somewhere. Their little girl who is three has named it Cotton however, they do not plan on keeping it. So we are in the process of trying to find it a home. It is totally tame, and in the meanwhile it has free run of their yard, and Olivia frequently feeds it carrots. As you can see, it also mingles with the wild ones, and they get along just fine. Now isn't that just a fine example for us fine educated humans. Though there are obvious differences in color and breed, it is still possible to get along. Oh my, wouldn't that be an answer to prayer. Have a great evening.
what cute rabbits!!! I always like them.....

Awww, they are both so adorable. I love bunnies :-) They both look great against that green :-)

we have one in our neighbor hood also.

They are so adorable.

Wow! That's amazing. I can't believe that a tame or domesticed rabbit would be able to survive. I just had no idea. I also think it's amazing that you were able to take a picture with both of them in it. Good lessons about what people should do.

Great capture and commentary Rick. Makes sense to me.

This is so cute! Great capture of having both rabbits in the shot! I hope they find Cotton a home soon. I love your ending thoughts. I totally agree

How cute is that? Wish it was legal to have rabbits here. :)

Love the fluffy white one... so gorgeously glam.
August 16th, 2011
Thats one fluffy bunny.. So sad that someone would ditch him. I had a bunny that thought it was a cat (it grew up with a litter of kittens we had). When he got old enough, he went looking for a wife with the wild rabbits.. After awhile he stopped comming home. Hope had had a nice family.. And same to this one.

Cute! The wild bunny adds a great touch!

An answer to a *lot* of prayers! Nice shot, Rick!

How cute and perfect name, Cotton. What a shame some cannot be responsible but I am glad the bunny was dropped off by your neighbor's and you. I know the bunny will find a loving home with your help.
August 16th, 2011
How cute. We had many rabbits over the years as well as a wide variety of other animals. Maybe you should keep it Rick!!! Love
this picture and your
thoughts. It would be so nice if people could see past color and other differences.
August 16th, 2011
I luv your ending thoughts too!! So great that u were able to capture them in the same shot!! Both such great looking animals! If I were closer, I would take cotton!!! So cute!!
August 16th, 2011
What a lovely photo. I like your story too Rick - so true!
August 16th, 2011
What a cute picture! :D
August 16th, 2011
oh too bad they were abandoned tsk tsk tsk. I would take them anytime. Have a nice evening Rick!
August 16th, 2011
Aw, this is great! Hopefully "Cotton" gets a home quickly.
August 16th, 2011
What an adorable pair! I hope they get to stay together! They seem to be buds! Adorable photo!
August 16th, 2011
Too cute
August 16th, 2011
What a sweet little bunny! I don't understand how someone could just drop it off!!! Lovely pic and words. :0)

You know, it's easy to get angry that people just drop animals off like that when there are places to take them in and find them good homes, but times are so tough lately, I think people do desparate things without really thinking. Thankfully for little Cotton, he landed in a place where people will take good care of him. I hope he gets a lifetime home real soon. Cute shot, and as always, thoughtful words to go with it!
August 16th, 2011
So true! Great shot, Rick! I think that once you NAME a pet . .you have to keep it tho! Just kidding.
August 16th, 2011
how fun! And yes, tame rabbits and wild rabbits are so very, very different in temperament! A very good example of how we CAN get along! Cool!
August 16th, 2011
That's a pretty wild story...Cotton is probably enjoying the freedom. I hope things turn out well.
August 16th, 2011
Aww, he's so cute! It makes me so angry when people just release their pets into the wild because they no longer want the responsibility of caring for them. It sounds like Cotton ended up wandering into the right yard... hopefully they can find a good forever home for him.
August 16th, 2011
awww that is so great... wish i could take him!
August 16th, 2011
What a sweet picture! :)
August 16th, 2011
great shot getting both rabbits together, love the commentary too
August 16th, 2011
A Fav! I love the picture and your sentiments as well.
August 16th, 2011
We had a tame rabbit down our farm track for years, he was black & white, & he mixed perfectly well all that time with the wild rabbits. This is a lovely capture of these sweet rabbits & I like your framing too !! Your words are so true !
August 16th, 2011
Neat capture - maybe you need to adopt a bunny?
August 16th, 2011
Its so cute..I would keep it..my kids had one once )all white too) when they were small..but somehow it got lost...at that time we had a marina and there were alway the boaters around..who knows?
August 16th, 2011
Great shot Rick. I hope you find the bunny a home.
August 16th, 2011
So cute.
August 16th, 2011
I would help with finding a home, but live quite a ways from you. I even have an extra cage that could be offered with it.
August 16th, 2011
Aw!
August 16th, 2011
A number of years ago a children's picture book by Garth Williams titled The Rabbits' Wedding created quite a controversy because it told the story of the nuptials of a black bunny and a white bunny. People can be so dense. This is a lovely capture. Hope this story has a happy ending.
August 16th, 2011
OHHH!!! adorable!!!
August 17th, 2011
Oh this just makes me so sad. I hate it when people think pets are disposable.
August 17th, 2011
I love this shot! It's so unusual and as always your reflections on your photo are inspiring and thought provoking. Even though it is sad that someone dumped such a beautiful bunny, he (or she) sure landed in the right neighborhood. Please let us know when Cotton finds a permanent home.
August 17th, 2011
Rick you certainly keep us entertained with your choices of subject. This is really cute and nice story behind the combinations of Colours.
August 18th, 2011
Oh cute photo -fancy getting them both in one pic. Great capture!
August 18th, 2011
What a darling photo! Oh, Goodness, how can anyone resist keeping "Cotton"?! That's the cutest! I hope she finds a perfect, loving home...and as several people on 365 know, having shared their little guys, they make pretty good house pets!
August 18th, 2011
Such a cutie! My friend just started a bunny nonprofit to help educate people on bunny care and such. Here are the links. Maybe they can help find it a home. http://www.basketsforbunnies.org/ and http://www.facebook.com/flopsylopsy if you have an fb account you can contact her there. Hope that helps.
August 19th, 2011
@hellcat Thanks hellcat. I think the bunny is actually settling in with the neighbor. Their little girl is actually growing pretty foond of Cotton
August 20th, 2011
How cool to get a shot of both of them! We've got wild rabbits (cottontails) on our property & they scatter FAST anytime I try to get a little close with a camera. That's so awesome that they get along so well.
August 20th, 2011
Cute bunnies
August 21st, 2011
How adorable!! You know, I'm always amazed when people just let a pet go in the wild. That is worse than turning it in to a shelter since a house pet has no clue how to fend for itself outside. Thank goodness you are trying to find a home for it.
August 21st, 2011
Awww, who could abandon any animal like that? I hope it finds a good home.
August 21st, 2011
lol, isn't that the way of it?
August 21st, 2011
oh my goodness they are adorable.
August 22nd, 2011
Awww, very cute!
August 23rd, 2011
Awww, they are so cute!!
August 24th, 2011
he does look a little like the one I posted, he is a little more fluffy.
August 30th, 2011
Awwwww... I've heard they can be taught to go in a litter box like a cat and make fabulous pets!

@georgiegirl That is true. My Daughter had one that she trained.
