wow, I am not one for edges, but the photos are AMAZING, but I may need a bit of a lie down since my head is now swimming.

i shot this from the penthouse of the Trump Tower in Toronto when it was under construction - from behind a little fence, of course (30th floor I think)

this one was from the 15th floor rooftop balcony at the Mercantile Building in Dallas

I need to do more shots from up high :)

Do CN Tower shots count? I have a photo of my then 7-month-old daughter crawling around on the glass floor on the observation deck. I noticed some of the other visitors there, especially the ones who were hesitant to go on the glass, snapping photos of her too.

I get dizzy just looking at those photos from the Toronto Star and Jerry's

So are these "rooftop photography" images interesting because of the context, knowing that the potential risks these photographers had to take to capture the image, or is it the images itself.

The images that I like are the ones that have a reference to how it was taken, i.e. the bottom portion of the image showing the platform or side of the building that the photographer was on. And because i have this reference, then I relate to the experience of being that high up and close to the edge and also understand the context of what the photographer may have done to get the image.

The images without these references are interesting images but nothing extra-ordinary from other images taken from high perspectives (i.e. through the window) and using HDR or long-exposure techniques.

i saw that article... wish i had the time, courage and chutzpah (sp?) to do that... altho' i agree with @davetom - you do need the reference point of where the shot is being taken to provide the context... but i am finding in wondering around downtown toronto that the splendour of some of the architecture is really diminished by having to shoot from the ground, with all the cars, people, poles and wires getting in the way... ;p i'm starting to ask around as to who has offices on high floors with interesting views! the pic below was taken from a colleague's office on the 24th floor of a building at yonge and bloor... you just can't get that kind of shot from street level :)

I took one tonight looking down on my daughter from on top of the kitchen counter. Yeah I live on the wild side. These photos are unreal. Those guys are nuts.
