I was very moved to read about Annie Leibovitz's new exhibition, Annie Leibovits: Pilgrimage at the Smithsonian. Her work has taken a whole new direction following a difficult financial and personal time. Has anyone seen this exhibition or the book? I'm hoping it will eventually filter down to a museum near me!
I love her work, and she has an interesting story. I don't know how much travelling her exhibit will do, but I don't see it coming to my area on the limited schedule it has. I found the book on Amazone for about $30 - not bad for a hardback photography book from one of the most famous female photographers in the world! :) http://www.amazon.com/Pilgrimage-Annie-Leibovitz/dp/0375505083
I have seen the book and saw the exhibition yesterday. Unfortunately, I had very little time to spend there and I got distracted by other things - the American Art Museum, where the Leibovitz show is, had been closed for renovations for a while so I wanted to see what they had done to it and that sidetracked me a bit. It's very close to my office and I might go back tomorrow. One thing I did notice is that the images are smaller than I expected and they are grouped close together. This was also the case at a show she had at the Corcoran a few years ago and I think it makes it hard to concentrate on the individual photos.
interesting. hopefully it'll reach my city. One can only imagine how someone so successful can so badly mishandle their finances. but oh well, heres to her being back on track.
